SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County is praising local businesses that are stepping up to the plate during these challenging times.A transportation company out of Oceanside called FACT, or "Full Access Coordinated Transportation," is offering free rides for seniors, the disabled or veterans who may need it for essential needs. That includes needs like doctor's appointments or rides to the grocery store.It is on a first come, first serve basis all across San Diego County.The free ride service runs through April 15th, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.FACT is encouraging anyone who is interested to call ahead at (888) 924 -3228. 647
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police are investigating reports of a gunfight in the city's Chollas Creek neighborhood.Police officers responded to reports of two people, described as two black males, shooting at each other in the 5000 block of Auburn Drive shortly after 1:30 p.m. Thursday.The shooting occurred on a residential street just blocks from two elementary schools: John Marshall Elementary School and The Waldorf School of San Diego.No injuries have been reported. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Residents in Sherman Heights are worried about a new homeless storage facility expected to open up in their neighborhood. The facility would reportedly go up on the corner of 20th and Commerical streets. It would have up to 1,000 individual storage bins. People in Sherman Heights say they don't want the facility to be an eyesore and were never consulted by the city. The facility would be similar to one that already exists on 16th Street. That facility provides lockers and storage bins for approximately 400 people. The facility is city-funded but run by the non-profit organization Think Dignity. The city is hosting a community forum about the storage facility on Friday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Sherman Heights Community Center. 811
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Residents in a senior mobile home park in Oceanside are worried about speeding drivers after two ducks were hit and killed Wednesday. Neighbors told 10News a mom, dad and baby duck were crossing the road around 5 a.m. when a newspaper delivery driver ran them over.Several residents reported that the driver responsible delivers the San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper and regularly speeds on their narrow roads.The UT told 10News their carriers are employed by a separate company but issued the following statement: "We have learned that a carrier from an independent distributor, who delivers The San Diego Union-Tribune, may have been involved in an auto collision involving a family of ducks. Safety is a priority for us and we support safe and respectful work practices among the vendors with whom we do business. We share the concerns of the residents and encourage the distributor to review the incident and address any unsafe practices." 970
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Fire-Rescue crews rescued a paraglider who crashed into a dangerous Torrey Pines bluff Friday.SDFD crews arrived at the site of the crash at around 1 p.m. Sky10 footage showed the person clinging to the cliff, wrapped in the wreckage of a broken glider, just over a section of Blacks Beach.Lt. Rich Stropky says the man was in training to become a paragliding pilot. He apparently attempted to make a left hand turn away from the bluff but lost control near Saddle Back ridge, said Stropky.RELATED: Cliff, air rescue numbers on rise in San Diego CountyCrews were able to airlift the person from the cliffside just after 2 p.m. He was immediately brought to a nearby hospital for his injuries.
