SHANGHAI, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Austrian President Heinz Fischer here on Friday expressed his confidence in the success of the Shanghai World Expo and expectation for further economic and trade cooperation between his country and China.The Expo would have profound influences on the social, economic and culture development of the host city Shanghai, Fischer said in a meeting with Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng.Austria hosted the 1873 World Expo.Fischer said Austria would actively participate in the Expo and Austrian Federal Chancellor Werner Faymann was expected to attend the opening ceremony.Despite the financial crisis, China was the only market of Austria that saw an increase in export volume in 2009, said Fischer.He called for further cooperation in such areas as economy, culture, science and sports.Austria's statistics showed that the trade volume of its export to China recorded a year-on-year increase of 5 percent in 2009, while China's customs said China-Austria trade hit 4.33 billion U.S. dollars from January to November last year.China has now become Austria's largest trading partner in Asia, and second largest outside the Europe and the fourth largest exporters to Austria in the world.Fischer arrived in Shanghai Thursday, or the 100-day countdown to the opening of the Expo. BEIJING, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- China's National Bureau of Corruption Prevention said in a circular posted on its website Monday that it would explore ways to fight corruption in non-public commercial entities and "new social organizations" in 2010."New social organizations" refer to intermediaries, non-governmental organizations and private non-business groups. Statistics from the Ministry of Civil Affairs showed there are around 400,000 such organizations in China.Industry associations will also be monitored for corruption, according to the circular, which highlighted the bureau's work in 2010.The bureau promised that it would earnestly exchange and cooperate with the international community in the anti-corruption efforts.It said that authorities would continue working to prevent officials using public money to travel overseas and they would work on the implementation of regulations for supervising officials whose spouses and children have emigrated abroad.It also pledged to improve transparency of government affairs as well as factory and village management's dealing of local affairs.According to an survey carried out by People's Daily Online, corruption has remained one of the top three concerns of Chinese netizens since the survey was initiated in 2006.Chinese authorities' latest move in the fight against corruption took place on Saturday as the State Council issued a revised regulation on the implementation of the Audit Law, which aims at tightening supervision of areas highly prone to corruption, including the construction industry.

ABU DHABI, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- The 2010 World Expo, slated for May 1 to Oct. 31 in the eastern Chinese city of Shanghai, will provide an opportunity for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and China to enhance their mutual understanding, officials said Wednesday.The UAE is the first country to complete the "base-build" of its own pavilion at the Expo, with the exception of China's national pavilion, the state news agency WAM reported.The UAE pavilion will carry the Gulf nation's message to the people of China and many other countries, Saqr Ghobash, chairman of the National Media Council that is coordinating the project, was quoted as saying."We are particularly focused on the theme of Expo 2010 -- ' Better City Better Life' -- because we recognize that this resonates very deeply with the UAE's own experience," he said.Ghobash added that the UAE government and people have made huge strides towards creating a modern society that respects its past whilst embracing the present."We have much to share with our friends and partners in other countries.
