SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Unified School District's Board of Education approved million in safety upgrades this week.The upgrades will be expedited for installation as well, and include things like security cameras, fencing, locks and gates, and notification systems."We proposed several significant changes that were adopted by the Board of Education at its meeting this week. These changes include fast-tracking several security upgrades at school sites. So far, nine juveniles have been criminally charged in the cases.Marten said in the letter that parents have been reaching out since the Florida tragedy to offer suggestions to safety procedures at the district's schools.The district also focuses on improving school climates for students venerable from becoming disconnected from their peers, according to Marten. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Zoo visitors are getting their first look at two endangered Amur leopard cubs born at the zoo in April.The unnamed cubs, born April 26, will have their first veterinary exam this week which will reveal the sex of the cubs."The cubs are climbing up on the rocks, they are getting into the trees, sometimes listening to mom and sometimes not," said Kelly Murphy, senior wildlife care specialist, San Diego Zoo. "Their personalities are still developing, and I’m looking forward to see what they become."The cubs' mother, Satka, has ventured out with the newborns daily and is already showing her kids how to stalk and climb, the zoo says. The animals are being raised in the park's Africa Rocks leopard habitat.Amur leopards are the rarest of the big cat species on Earth. There are fewer than 100 Amur leopards believed to exist in the habitats of Russia and China. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Several men tried to scale the border fence at Border Field State Park Thursday evening.Video shows the men sitting on top of the wall attempting to get over. Border Patrol responded and agents were able to break up the crowd on the Mexico side of the border. Following the incident, the agency said it is willing to add agents in the area as needed. According to Border Patrol officials, about 167 arrests are made per day at the San Diego sector of the border. VIDEO: Migrants climb over border fence at Border Field State ParkEarlier in the week, dozens of migrants were caught on video climbing over the same section of the border fence. During that incident, several people successfully made it over the fence and onto the beach on the U.S. side of the border before being apprehended by agents. A total of 24 people, 18 men and six women, were taken into custody. According to Border Patrol, 23 of the people who crossed the border illegally were from Honduras while the 24th person was from Guatemala. 1036
