Your spirit has touched all Chinese people. I hope you will soon go back to your normal lives and build a better home."     At Dujiangyan Radio and Television Station, Li urged the technicians to repair the network as soon as possible to ensure that the people in the quake zone could enjoy radio and TV programs. Li hoped they could go deep into the front line of the quake and represent the feelings of the victims, soldiers and other relief workers.     "I believe you can create many artworks that will inspire the people affected by the earthquake," Li said.     He was accompanied by Liu Yunshan, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee.     The death toll in the earthquake that jolted Sichuan Province and some other areas on May 12 rose to 69,107 as of Tuesday noon.

The command by Hu, also Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China, was announced at an award meeting here on Sunday.     The regiment of army aviation under the Chengdu Military Command did an excellent job in quake-relief missions and showed great loyalty, courage and dedication, the command said. A Mi-171 transport helicopter engaging in quake relief work near the Yingxiu Township, Wenchuan County in southwest China's Sichuan Province crashed on Saturday afternoon, according to military sources    All Chinese military members should learn from the regiment, which put people's lives first, it said.     The regiment has dispatched 1,848 helicopter flights for rescue and transport missions since the quake on May 12 and evacuated 1,126 injured people from the region.     More than 619 tons of food, water and medicines have been delivered and 2,171 people stranded by the quake were transferred by the regiment.     One of the regiment's helicopters crashed in a deep forest ravine in Sichuan Province during a rescue mission on May 31, leaving all five crew and 13 passengers dead.     The honor awarded to the regiment was the top honor of all the regiment members and all military members who participated in quake-relief missions, Xu Caihou, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, said at the meeting.

BEIJING, July 9 (Xinhua) -- The parties involved in the Korean Peninsula nuclear talks held intense bilateral meetings here to pave the way for the discussions between chief negotiators, which are scheduled for Thursday afternoon. Kim Sook, chief negotiator of the Republic of Korea (ROK) delegation, met with his U.S. counterpart Christopher Hill and Chinese chief delegate Wu Dawei on Wednesday.    After the bilateral meetings, Kim told reporters that he felt neither "optimistic" nor "pessimistic" about the six-party talks, and each party needed to cool down and detail the relevant issues. The heads meeting of a new round of six-party talks on Korean Peninsular nuclear issue will be held here on July 10.     Hill, after meeting with the ROK side, said they touched upon issues including the verification process for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) denuclearization, fuel aid to the country, food shipments and other issues.     Hill said he is scheduled to have a breakfast meeting on Thursday with Russian chief delegate Alexei Borodavkin, after which there will be a trilateral meeting of China, the United States and Russia, with the aim of fully preparing for the six-party talks in the afternoon.     Hill met with the DPRK delegation soon after he arrived in Beijing on Tuesday afternoon, saying that denuclearization verification, including documents, site visits and interviews, would be a focal point in the upcoming meeting.     Under an agreement reached in October, the DPRK agreed to abandon all nuclear weapons and programs and declare all its nuclear programs and facilities by the end of 2007, in exchange for diplomatic and economic incentives.     The DPRK submitted its nuclear declaration to China on June 26 and demolished the cooling tower at the Yongbyon nuclear reactor on June 27, though it missed the deadline.

  

BEIJING, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said here on Friday that he hoped China and the European Union (EU) would enhance its dialogue and consultation to ensure the healthy and stable development of the China-EU all-round strategic partnership.     Hu made the remarks in a meeting with EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.     He said it was not only in line with both sides' fundamental interests, but also conducive to the peace, stability and development of the world to further cement and step up China-EU ties under current circumstances. JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, June 22 (Xinhua) -- China will stick to the a sustainable energy strategy and make active contributions to the sustainable energy development and energy security in the world, Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping said on Sunday.     China will put emphasis on both energy exploitation and conservation with priority given to economizing on energy consumption, Xi said at the ongoing International Energy Conference held in the western Saudi port city of Jeddah. Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping addresses the the international energy meeting held in Jeddah, Aaudi Arabia on SundayChina has drafted a plan to reduce the energy consumption in per unit gross domestic product by about 20 percent by 2010 from the 2005 level, Xi said.     "We'll take all possible measures to achieve the goal," he told the one-day meeting.     China will try to meet the demands for economic growth and the improvement of people's life by increasing domestic energy supply, Xi said.     China still has great potential for domestic energy supply, as the country has abundant reserves in coal, the major source for its energy. Its rich hydroelectric resources, plus other new energies such as nuclear energy, wind energy, are yet to be fully exploited, he added.     China will pursue diversified development of energy supplies, Xi said.     Various energy forms such as coal, oil and gas, hydroelectricity, wind electricity and solar energy will supplement each other to secure a stable energy supply, he said.     Technological progress and innovation in the energy field will be encouraged in China, said the vice president.     China will enhance its ability of innovation, break through the bottlenecks of energy technology and seek new ways to exploit energy resources, he said.     China will strive to build a resource-conserving and environment-friendly society by ensuring the coordinated development of energy production and environmental protection, he said.     China will also adhere to the principle of mutual benefit in the energy field and strengthen cooperation with energy producing and consuming nations, he added.
