Melania Trump, nearly 16 months into her tenure as first lady, has at last revealed her formal platform: "Be Best." The comprehensive program will focus on three main points -- well-being, fighting opioid abuse and positivity on social media -- and is the culmination of the past several months of Trump's various public events, all of which centered around helping children."As a mother and as first lady, it concerns me that in today's fast-paced and ever-connected world, children can be less prepared to express or manage their emotions and oftentimes turn to forms of destructive or addictive behavior such as bullying, drug addiction or even suicide," she said during a Rose Garden event Monday."I feel strongly that as adults we can and should be best at educating our children about the importance of a healthy and balanced life," the first lady said.Trump has in recent weeks experienced a significant surge in support, a new CNN poll revealed Monday, including among women and Democrats. In a poll conducted by SSRS last week, 57% say they have a favorable impression of Trump, up from 47% in January. This is the biggest number Melania Trump has experienced in any CNN polling, and higher than any favorability rating earned by President Donald Trump in CNN polling history going back to 1999.Twenty-seven percent of respondents have an unfavorable view of the first lady. The platform pillars she revealed during her 10-minute speech in the White House Rose Garden include well-being, encompassing healthy living as well as emotional health; opioid abuse, including bringing awareness to neonatal abstinence syndrome and emphasizing the importance of healthy pregnancy; and social media, where Trump plans to encourage kids to use the internet in positive ways, tamping down cyberbullying and negativity. The last of these issues has been a lightning rod of controversy for Trump, whose husband is perhaps one of the most public, and prolific, offenders of name-calling on Twitter.Sitting in the front row, feet from his wife at the podium, the President listened as the first lady cautioned against using the very behavior Trump displays, sometimes on a daily basis."As we all know, social media can both positively and negatively affect our children. But too often, it is used in negative ways," said Trump. "When children learn positive online behaviors early on, social media can be used in productive ways and can affect positive change."Asked about the President's online behavior earlier Monday, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders rejected the suggestion that he has fostered a climate where cyberbullying exists."I think the idea that you're trying to blame cyberbullying on the President -- when it comes to kids this is something that has been problematic and something that we have seen over the last decade," Sanders said.At the end of the event, Trump did not take questions, and her spokeswoman indicated the first lady will not be doing any interviews. Trump's only one-on-one televised interview as first lady was with CNN last year in China. 3102

MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif.(KGTV) - Mammoth Mountain closed Saturday after three people were partially buried in an apparent avalanche. The popular snow resort issued the closure on Twitter, saying the avalanche struck just after 10 a.m. while Mammoth Mountain Ski Patrol was performing avalanche hazard mitigation, which could involve structural measures or artificial triggering of high-risk areas."All rescue measures are in place and the mountain is currently closed," officials tweeted. The three individuals partially buried were able to free themselves. There have been no reports of missing persons, the resort said.1/2 At approximately 10:15AM on March 3, 2018, Mammoth Mountain Ski Patrol was performing avalanche hazard mitigation work when an avalanche released on the upper part of the mountain traveling towards the High Five Express [Chair 5] area. Millions of people who are working or those hoping to return to work soon are depending on childcare. However, the industry is ringing the alarm, warning that most childcare providers are on the brink of closing permanently.“The fixed cost in these small businesses is so high that you are already running at very close margins and then with COVID, that pushed everything over the edge,” said Serah Kaiel.Kaiel has owned and run a small day care, Little Thinkers Montessori in New York City, for nine years. In March, her enrollment dropped by almost 80%, while her cost to stay open went up substantially.“It is like 0 to ,000 per child extra per year,” said Kaiel. "Like for the PPE, for the cleaning products, for all the things that go into keep it as safe and the best practices.”After operating in the red for six months, most providers are now coming to terms with the reality that staying open may not be a possibility much longer.“I represent women of color, I represent single mothers, and we are working on the front lines in this pandemic and we have the most to lose with the least amount of resources available to us,” said Kaiel. “There are moments when it is really scary.”A recent survey done by the National Association for the Education of Young Children shows that without some government aid, roughly 50% of childcare providers throughout the country could close permanently by the end of fall.Experts point out such a substantial loss of childcare could force more people out of the workforce. Low-income workers and women would be disproportionately affected.“It has this massive impact on the economics of communities. It has this massive impact on the economics of society, on women having the same opportunities that men do,” said Rhian Allvin. "It has a ripple effect that is really dramatic."Allvin is with the National Association for the Education of Young Children. NAEYC is calling on Congress to act and allocate billion for the industry in the next stimulus package.“We have really strong Democrat support. We have really strong Republican support. So right now, the hold up in Congress I don’t think is childcare,” said Allvin. "But young children and our field will suffer if they don’t get a stimulus package pass between now and the election.” 2298

He added that his role at the border was an "observer" to ensure the migrants are being processed fairly and appropriately. He said those in the caravan understand they could end up in a detention facility, and they're okay with it, "Yes because they’re they’re escaping what they feel is death and escaping what they think is a life without possibilities." 1728

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Police say 87 demonstrators who gathered at the home of Kentucky's attorney general to demand justice for Breonna Taylor have been arrested. News outlets report protesters with the social justice organization Until Freedom gathered Tuesday for a sit-in at the home of Daniel Cameron. Police say they were charged with the felony crime of "intimidating a participant in a legal process"; disorderly conduct, and trespassing. Taylor was fatally shot by police on March 13 during a narcotics investigation. Her death set off weeks of protests and calls for the officers to be charged. Among those arrested were Kenny Stills, a wide receiver for the Houston Texans, and Porsha Williams of "Real Housewives of Atlanta."Stills tweeted a picture of his mugshot. 785
