SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - To protect his best friend, a Sabre Springs man found himself in a brawl with a bobcat. Bobby Abrams, a 78-year-old Vietnam veteran, said it happened Saturday morning while walking his dog Sammy. The Navy veteran is in tiptop shape; he does hundreds of push-ups a day and goes on walks up to 14 miles. "Oh yea, he was snarling, arggggg, like that!" remembers Abrams. RELATED: Woman spots bobcat lurking through backyard in 4S RanchAbrams was walking on Ted Williams Parkway when he says the bobcat appeared and quickly attacked Sammy, biting him in the neck. Abrams quickly pulled the bobcat off, grabbing it by the throat and slinging it back and forth. He ultimately broke the animal's neck, killing it. Abrams was left with puncture wounds on his hands. He says he had to defend his dog and would do it again if he had to. He says their close relationship began when Abrams rescued Sammy from an abusive situation; he says they both have PTSD. "I love that dog as much as I love my momma. I love that dog, the Navy, and my momma!" said Abrams. A spokesperson says bobcats are not unusual in that area but are usually nocturnal. They speculate the animal might not have gone out that night due to bad weather and instead went out during the day.If you find yourself in a similar situation, wildlife officials say stand your ground and try to pull the animal away. They recommend avoiding going out at night when coyotes and bobcats are out. It's also advised to make loud noises and throw objects, like a rock, at the animal to try and scare it off. Officials say bobcats are typically fearful of humans. 1885

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego Fertility Center will be the first in the nation to deploy new robotic technology that will help store, track and maintain frozen embryos for In-Vitro Fertilization.The TMRW Robot will be in use by next month at the center in Carmel Valley. It will take 17,000 measurements every day to make sure the embryos are kept in prime conditions.It also codes each embryo and egg with a specific Radio Frequency ID to make sure scientists can track each one."There needs to be this level of trust between the mother and father and the caretakers of their embryos," says Dr. Michael Kettel with the SDFC. "I think this goes one step further in building that trust."Since IVF treatment began, most of the storage and measurements taken on embryos has been done by hand, in tanks that hold up to 1,000 samples. The TMRW Robot will have room for nearly 20,000 embryos and make the process fully automatic. Doctors say that will remove any possibility of human error."We can't make a mistake," says SDFC Laboratory Director Bill Venier. "This machine will not let us make a mistake."IVF mistakes have been in the news recently as families have filed lawsuits over embryos being given to the wrong parents. Venier says the TMRW Robot will all but eliminate the chance of that happening."We'll have 24/7, 365 (monitoring of) 17,000 data points to let us know everything is safe and is not going to be affected whatsoever," he says. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The trial for a former San Diego County sheriff's deputy accused of sexual misconduct while wearing his uniform began Monday in Vista.More than a dozen women claim Deputy Richard Fischer made unwanted advances."I think he's a bad guy," a San Marcos woman, who filed ,000,000 claim against the County, said.She said in August of 2017 two sheriff's deputies knocked on her door in the middle of the night for a welfare check. There was no problem and they left but she said Fischer returned alone an hour later, saying he needed to use her restroom; then told her she was cute and hugged her, several times."I was stunned shocked, it was very fast and confusing...I felt very vulnerable, intimidated, felt weak. I felt little." She said, next to tears. "It's just a mess! Everything is a mess! This is hard to do. He shouldn't have come back to my house and I don't ... Everything's a mess!"Similar instances were described by other women. In October of 2017, near the entryway of a 64-year-old woman's condo, Fischer took her report for a domestic violence incident and then made his move."His hands went all the way down to her butt and he squeezed both of her buttocks... he took her hand and pulled it down to his groin area," Lawyer Dan Gilleon said. He represents several women who filed claims against Fischer.Gilleon made a theme apparent, "he knows that she's alone, and she's vulnerable, and she's scared." Another victim called him a predator.Some women who came forward claim Fischer became more brazen, forcing sexual acts.Wednesday a plea deal fell through. The deal would mean Fischer would plead guilty to four felony charges -- down from more than 12 felonies -- and serve no more than five years in prison.10News learned that Fischer would also have to register as a sex offender for life under the plea deal.Fischer faces more than 25 years in prison if convicted of all charges. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is warning San Diegans about a mysterious and possibly deadly counterfeit drug being traded on the streets. The department says they believe the pills have caused four overdose deaths in San Diego County over the last 36 hours. The deaths happened in Valley Center, Santee, Poway and Lakeside. “It’s being traded and sold on the streets with the promise of a painkiller high, but no one really knows what exactly is in the drug which makes it so dangerous,” the department said. Authorities say the pills are blue with one side marked by an "M" while the other side is stamped with a "30." The department says the pills are often called "M-30s" or "blues."While the department doesn't know exactly what's in the pills, investigators say these type of pills often contain fentanyl or carfentanil.Anyone with information is urged to call the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477.
