SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A preliminary 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck in Inyo County, just north of Ridgecrest, on Wednesday.The quake occurred at about 10:40 a.m. in the Lone Pine area, about 60 miles north of Ridgecrest, according to the USGS. There have not been any immediate reports of injury or damage.The initial 5.8 earthquake was followed by several smaller shake-ups, ranging from magnitude 2.5 to 4.6.USGS's "Did You Feel It?" map reported the quake was felt as far away as Fresno to the north, Los Angeles to the south, and Las Vegas, Nev., to the east. Called nomophobia, short for no more phone phobia, 73 percent of teens in a recent addiction study reported feeling anxious when their phones had no charge according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse for Teens. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local musician is facing a painful COVID-19 toll, losing three family members and five friends to the virus.David Whitman's first loss to COVID-19 came in late April with the passing of Jeanne Fisher, his great-aunt."Went downhill fairly quickly and passed away at a nursing home in the Chicago area," said Whitman.In early June, his grandmother Beverly Whitman, 92, became sick at a nursing home in Wisconsin. She died June 13."I know the morphine they gave her. She really needed it. It was not an easy way to go," said Whitman.A few days before she passed, she was able to share a room with her husband of 69 years, Robert Whitman, 93, also diagnosed with coronavirus. He died three days after her death."His condition deteriorated pretty quickly I think after my grandmother passed away," said Whitman.Whitman's emotions are still raw."It's really tough not to be with family, not being able to get together to mourn," said Whitman.Whitman, a professional musician, is also grieving the death of five friends from the world of music. A few days ago, he released a recording of his award-winning song "I Have A Friend," which was inspired by his grandmother. Ken Burnett's wife and two young children were visiting Wuhan, China when the coronavirous broke out. The city shut down and the three were stranded, unable to fly home. Their 14-day federal quarantine ends on Tuesday. Burnett plans on traveling to Northern California to reunite with his wife and kids so they can all travel back to San Diego together.
