SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego City Council voted 6-3 Monday on an option for regulating marijuana use in San Diego, now that it is legal.Council members chose between two options. The first would have allowed testing of marijuana and marijuana products in labs in industrial and commercial zones that prohibit residential use.The second option, which passed, will allow testing plus cultivation, distribution and production of marijuana with a permit.  The activities will be allowed in light and heavy industrial zones.San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman urged the council to enforce option one with the strictest of controls.  The Chief cited the 11 current dispensaries as a public safety concern."We've fielded 273 radio calls from those establishments so far this year, everything from violent robberies to a shooting and those calls will increase," Zimmerman said. 911

Soledad National Veterans Memorial, honoring those who've selflessly served and sacrificed for the nation.Wayne Thompson, who served in the Navy for 30 years, says he attends the Mt. Soledad ceremony every year.“This world would be a lot different if we didn’t have the people that are on this wall. If they didn’t give their lives for the people in this country," said Thompson.Thompson did three tours in Vietnam and now suffers from health complications due to Agent Orange. He's had 11 seizures but says he would serve all over again if asked.“I kept wanting to serve, I don’t know, I just felt like I was doing something for the country, it’s hard to understand, but you get a fulfillment out of serving somebody," said Thompson.He says he's grateful for those who served before him and those serving now.Col. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department has a new million tool to fight wildfires.The department unveiled its S-70i Firehawk helicopter Thursday, a modified version of the military’s Black Hawk helicopter.The aircraft is bigger, faster and capable of dropping more water than the city’s other two helicopters combined. The Firehawk has a 1,000-gallon tank compared to the 375-gallon tanks in Copters 1 and 2.San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Chief Colin Stowell said the Firehawk, dubbed Copter 3, represents the “latest and greatest in fire suppression and rescue capabilities.”RELATED: Chula Vista brush fire highlights rare night water drop technique“San Diego has over 45,000 properties adjacent to canyon rims and open spaces, posing a significant fire risk in our city.
