BEIJING, July 9 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States are likely to conclude the first phase of Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) talks soon and start substantive negotiations on the negative list, a Chinese assistant commerce minister said on Wednesday.

Schneider-Ammann noted that Switzerland will take the opportunity provided by the free trade agreement to further pragmatic cooperation with China in economic and social fields and promote the bilateral relation to a higher level.

Zhang, chief of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, started his four-day visit to the island on Wednesday. He is scheduled to spend three whole days touring the island in an itinerary focused on its grass-roots.

For industrial and investment cooperation, the two sides will cooperate in areas including waste material salvage, renewable energy, architecture and design, health service, aviation, engine technology, machinery, communication technology, nanotechnology, biopharmacy, shipbuilding, and oil and gas exploration, the action plan said.
