SAN FRANCISCO (CNN) - James Schwab, a spokesman for the San Francisco Division of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, has resigned, citing what he says are falsehoods being spread by members of the Trump administration including Attorney General Jeff Sessions."I just couldn't bear the burden -- continuing on as a representative of the agency and charged with upholding integrity, knowing that information was false," he told CNN on Monday.Schwab cited Acting Director Tom Homan and Attorney General Jeff Sessions as being the purveyors of misleading and inaccurate information, following Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf's controversial decision to warn the community of an upcoming ICE raid.ICE released a press release on February 27 about the operations in Northern California in which Homan stated that "864 criminal aliens and public safety threats remain at large in the community, and I have to believe that some of them were able to elude us thanks to the mayor's irresponsible decision."Sessions also repeated a similar estimate in his remarks while visiting Sacramento last week."Those are 800 wanted criminals that are now at large in that community -- 800 wanted criminals that ICE will now have to pursue with more difficulty in more dangerous situations, all because of one mayor's irresponsible action," Sessions had said.Schwab said he took issue with their characterization."Director Homan and the Attorney General said there were 800 people at large and free to roam because of the actions of the Oakland Mayor," he told CNN. "Personally I think her actions were misguided and not responsible. I think she could have had other options. But to blame her for 800 dangerous people out there is just false.""It's a false statement because we never pick up 100% of our targets. And to say they're a type of dangerous criminal is also misleading."Schwab said he brought up his concerns to ICE leadership and was told to "deflect to previous statements. SAN GABRIEL (CNS) - A multi-agency investigation was underway Sunday following a four-alarm fire that caused "extensive damage" to the historic 249-year-old San Gabriel Mission.Meanwhile, Los Angeles Archbishop Jose H. Gomez conducted a late- morning Mass at the Mission on Sunday and said a fundraising campaign is already underway to rebuild as the church's 250-year anniversary approaches."This destruction comes as we are getting ready to celebrate the 250th anniversary of this great mission. But this fire changes nothing. Mission San Gabriel will always be the spiritual heart of the Church in Los Angeles, the place from which the Gospel still goes forth," Gomez said during the homily."You trace your roots all the way back to the beginnings of the Christian faith in California, before the founding of the United States. In fact, you are one of the few Catholic communities in this continent that can claim to be founded by a saint. Last night I was praying to your founder, St. Junipero Serra, and reflecting on his words and witness," the archbishop continued. "And I thought, what would St. Junipero tell us this morning? And I remembered his beautiful little prayer: `Let us bear every hardship for the love of You and the salvation of souls. In our trials, may we know that we are loved as Your own children."'The San Gabriel Mission was founded by Franciscan Father Junipero Serra in 1771, a few miles southeast of Pasadena.Gomez was joined at Sunday's service by San Gabriel Mission pastor Father John Molyneux.The fire at 4:25 a.m. Saturday sent firefighters to 428 S. Mission Road, where the first to arrive reported a large column of smoke and flame coming from the corner of the roof, said Capt. Antonio Negrete of the San Gabriel Fire Department."During the course of the fire, portions of the roof fell upon the firefighters," Negrete said. "They were evacuated and initiated a defensive fire attack."The fire was knocked down at 6:48 a.m., he said. No injuries were reported."It's a tragic loss for our city. (KGTV) - Voters are expressing confusion and frustration after receiving a mailer titled 'COPS Voter Guide.'Brandon Salgado was sorting through the mail this past weekend at his grandfather’s home in Santee when he saw the political mailer."It’s got the badge, says 'COPS Voter Guide.' On the back it says 'COPS' and it's red and blue. Looks like something law enforcement would back," said Salgado.Salgado has family members that work in and with law enforcement, and took a closer look at the mailer’s list of ‘priority’ propositions. At the top, next to Prop 16, which involves the issue of affirmative action, is the word 'NO,' and an arrow pointing to a mailer's description of the proposition: 'For Racial Equality.'"I was shocked that someone should put out that law enforcement is 'No' for racial equality. Just didn’t sit well with me. It’s a bad look, bad optics," said Salgado.Salgado, who thought the mailer had police backing, then saw the fine print, which says 'This organization does not represent any public safety personnel.'So what does it represent?A video on the the COPS Voter Guide website says the Folsom-based group is a non-partisan, public advocacy organization.“The candidates we support have pledged to make public safety a top priority,” explains the group's director in the video.During the 2016 presidential election, the Modesto Bee described it as a 'pay-to-play mailer,' disguising advertisements as endorsements. On the mailer itself, there is the phrase 'paid for' by the candidates or ballot measures."It’s completely misleading ...
