SAN FRANCISCO, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Microsoft on Thursday introduces a hacking alert system to its Windows Live Hotmail email service alongside banning common passwords."When someone's account gets hijacked, their friends often find out before they do, because the hijacker uses their account to send spam or phishing email to all their contacts," said Microsoft in a blog post.The new security feature adds a "My friend's been hacked!" option in the "mark as" menu in Hotmail and also enables users to report hacked accounts via the junk mail filing screen.Then an alert will be sent to Microsoft, which will "make sure the account can no longer be used by spammers and activates an account recovery process to allow the owner to take back control the accounts."Users can report any email account as compromised and Hotmail will provide the information to other email providers like Yahoo! and Gmail, said the blog.Meanwhile, Microsoft said Hotmail will roll out a feature to prevent users from choosing commonly used and weak passwords, such as "123456," "ilovecats" and "gogiants." Users who currently use a weak password will be asked to change to a stronger one in the future.Hotmail, first launched in July 1996, is one of the first free email providers, and was acquired by Microsoft in 1997 for an estimated 400 million U.S. dollars.According to statistics released by comScore last August, Hotmail was then the world's largest web-based email service with around 364 million users, followed by Yahoo! COPENHAGEN, May 29 (Xinhua) -- The number of confirmed E.coli cases has risen to 11 with at least another eight persons suspected of having the intestinal infection in Denmark, according to Denmark's National Serum Institute on Sunday.Five of the confirmed cases show symptoms of kidney failure which marks an advanced stage of the sickness, the institute said.Danish cucumbers are suspected of helping spread the E. coli bacteria believed to be causing a deadly outbreak of intestinal infection in Denmark and Germany, local media reported Sunday.The Danish cucumbers were mixed in Germany with cucumbers originating in the Netherlands, making it difficult to determine if Danish cucumbers are in fact contaminated.Denmark's Veterinary and Food Administration (DVFA) had earlier said the suspicion against Danish cucumber was "vague", but advised Danish consumers not to eat raw tomatoes, lettuces and cucumbers from Germany, and cucumber from Spain.It is now checking Danish cucumbers for traces of E. coli with results expected on Tuesday.Some Danish retailers have now removed these products from their supermarket shelves. And the Danish branch of fast-food chain McDonald's announced Saturday that it was dropping fresh cucumbers from its menu until further notice.The infection, which is food-borne, can be caused by eating raw or uncooked foods such as vegetables contaminated with the E. coli bacteria.Symptoms of infection include mild fever, bloody diarrhea and vomiting, and can last five to seven days. BEIJING, August 4 (Xinhuanet) -- Medtronic Inc. is giving Yale University a 2.5 million U.S. dollar grant to review the safety and effectiveness of its controversial spine treatment called Infuse Bone Graft, according to The Wall Street Journals Thursday.Under terms of the pact, the company will release to Yale and eventually the public what participants described as an unprecedented amount of clinical trial and other data. The university will select two research teams from other organizations to perform separate analyses of the data.The announcement comes in the wake of a paper in June in the Spine Journal. The paper revealed that several clinical studies of Infuse, conducted by surgeons with strong economic ties to Medtronic, failed to report serious complications that arose in the trials. The critical paper also found that many of the studies were designed in ways in favor of Infuse over a treatment given to a control group.Medtronic disputes some of the findings and is conducting an internal investigation of the matter.Infuse accounts for about 700 million dollars in annual sales for Medtronic. The product is under investigation by the Senate Finance Committee over the role payments to physicians who may have played how studies were reported.
