IOWA CITY, Iowa — A young child died due to complications from coronavirus in June, the first confirmed death of a minor in Iowa during the pandemic, the state health department belatedly announced Sunday evening.The Iowa Department of Public Health said the state medical examiner’s office concluded its case investigation Aug. 6 into the death of the child, who was under the age of 5. But the death wasn’t reported in the state’s statistics until Saturday, more than two weeks later.“The child’s death was publicly reported this weekend after ensuring the individual’s identity would remain protected and notifying the family,” the department said in a statement. “We have made every effort to protect the identity of this child, while the family grieves this devastating loss. At their last speed test in the tube, she says their pod traveled 240 miles per hour, limited only by the length of the track. At top speeds, Sengupta says the Hyperloop is expected to travel at about 700 miles per hour. That, she said, means Hyperloop is not science fiction. “It is science fact because you can see it right here.” She spent most of her career working at NASA but brought her expertise back down to earth to help make Hyperloop a reality. This project reminds her of working on spacecraft. “I’m used to working with vacuum systems,” she said. “I’m used to working with electromagnetic propulsion.”How does Hyperloop work?Sengupta said the Hyperloop also uses a vacuum system. An electromagnetically propelled pod, designed to fit nine to twelve people, would levitate and travel through a vacuum tube. Between the levitation and vacuum system, she said the ride would remind people of an airplane but better. “There is no such thing as turbulence, right? So far, he says the trade-off is paying off for both people and banks."I've never seen a coin shortage. We have had lows throughout time, but never anything we thought was a problem," he said. "But luckily, we were able to get out ahead of this."Some customers aren't even looking to cash in. Neil Buchanan of Community State Bank in Wisconsin says many customers are simply exchanging the coins for bills and not taking the 5% incentive."We've had a lot of people come in and say, "No, no. I don't want the bonus. I just heard that there was a problem. I have this coin. I want to be part of the solution.,'" he said.Economic experts say the coin shortage is linked to the pandemic."There was a decline in supply of coins by the mints and there was an increase in demand for the coins as we all got back to getting the groceries," said Kishore Kulkarni, Ph.D., a professor of economics at MSU Denver.Kulkarni said countries around the world have suffered from coin shortages before, and while these types of coin buyback programs do help the economy, more transactions in the future will require less exact change."We are in a cashless society already, and we will be more so moving forward," Kulkarni said.Moving forward financially, Amarillo National Bank will continue exchanging coins for cash through Sept. 1. The Adria Tour canceled its final match in Croatia on Sunday after Dimitrov’s diagnosis. Djokovic and the tournament as a whole have come under fire for flouting social distancing norms.- A number of college football teams have reported outbreaks. Clemson had 23 players test positive, and Kansas State said it had 13 positive tests for the virus. College football teams began allowing voluntary workouts on campus earlier this month.Last week, Dr. Anthony Fauci placed skepticism on whether the NFL season would even be played."Unless players are essentially in a bubble -- insulated from the community and they are tested nearly every day -- it would be very hard to see how football is able to be played this fall," Dr. Fauci told CNN. "If there is a second wave, which is certainly a possibility and which would be complicated by the predictable flu season, football may not happen this year."Leagues such as the NFL have said they are putting together plans which are heavily reliant on frequent testing of players and staff.
