If you live with someone who has opposing views about the COVID-19 pandemic, it can make living situations awkward.Hunter Stanfield is an assistant professor of family science at Lipscomb University. When approaching someone about their views on COVID-19, and their habits, he said it’s best to remain calm and open-minded.“It is throwing everyone for a loop,” Stanfield said, “So instead of saying that you’re really getting worked up about this, that’s probably not the best initial approach. It may be ‘I can see that this is really upsetting to you, can you tell me a little bit more about that?'”He said trying to understand, before attempting to be understood, is a good starting place. “Am I willing to consider their perspective, or am I in this to prove them wrong? Which in the end gets us nowhere in all of this, so I think those basic things are really important and critical.”If you know why someone’s habits are a certain way, it’s possible to compromise.“I know some people say compromise is a dirty word, in this case, I think compromise really gets at the fact that I’m wanting to meet someone or be a part of someone’s life the best I can," Stanfield said.If the social awkwardness persists, a ton of people is going to therapy to sort it out right now.“I sometimes equate therapy to taking your car in to get an oil change. Sometimes it’s good to go in for a routine tune-up.”Lipscomb University actually provides low-cost therapy for folks in the community that need it. Hundreds of rescue personnel dressed in white overalls are sifting through smoldering rubble and mangled cars, searching for the remains of the victims of California's deadliest wildfire. The Camp Fire killed at least 56 people in Northern California and turned the hardest-hit town of Paradise into ash and debris. In the devastating aftermath, cadaver dogs, deputies and coroners are searching the ruins where the town of 27,000 once stood.PHOTOS: California wildfires devastationWith at least 130 people unaccounted for and the number expected to go up, investigators will start collecting DNA samples from relatives of the missing Thursday. More than a quarter of Paradise's residents are senior citizens and most on the list of the missing are 65 or older."This is a daunting task. We feel really bad for the people who don't know what happened to their loved ones and our hearts go out to them," Butte County Sheriff's Investigations Sgt. Steve Collins said. "We want to give them some answers."In Southern California, two people were killed in the Woolsey Fire, bringing the total number of state fire deaths to 58. 1129

House Democrats elected to keep their leaders in place on Wednesday, marking a win for the party's moderate wing. The party confirmed Wednesday that Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-California, would continue to serve as Speaker of the House. Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Maryland, will again serve as the House Majority Leader, Rep. James Clyburn, D-South Carolina, will continue to serve as the House Majority Whip, and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries will keep his role as the chairman of the House Democratic caucus. No other Democrats mounted serious challenges to current party leadership positions.Pelosi's upcoming term will mark her fourth as Speaker of the House. She previously served as speaking when Democrats held the majority in the House from 2007 to 2011, and she was elected as Speaker again when Dems won back control following the 2016 midterms.Though House Democrats will be working with a Democrat president in Joe Biden next term, serious questions remain about the future of the party.Democrats went into the 2020 election hoping to control both chambers of Congress and the White House — and plenty of polling suggested that they would do so. But Democrats lost seats in the House in the 2020 election, and the control of the Senate hinges on two January run-off elections in Georgia — meaning Biden could face significant challenges in getting his legislation passed. 1367

If you’re among the 40 million people online looking for love, you know it can be tough finding the perfect match. It might be your fault, but one little change could send you down the aisle. The problem? You may be dating out of your league. A new study found that users who messaged people out of their league typically waited a lot longer to get a reply back or even get a reply at all. "A lot of people try to date out of their league, and they use that terminology," says Chief love officer Michelle Frankel, with New York City Matchmaking. "But it may not result in the end relationship they are looking for; but it might not even be what they perceive it to be."  According to Urban Dictionary, dating out of your league simply means you’ve got no shot. However, Frankel says that’s not true all the time. For example, look at Christie Brinkley and Billy Joel, back in the 1980's.Frankel says dating up like Billy Joel did can work, but it can’t be based on looks alone. “Look what he brought to the table," explains Frankel. "Clearly he was financially set at the time and also he had so much unique talent."  If you date out of your league simply to find someone better looking than you, Frankel says good luck finding a match. "That's not a recipe for a lasting relationship in and of itself. There has to be more compatibility, shared values, same interests and both going in the same direction." Whether you are dating online or in person, Frankel says to stop trying to find your Disney movie moment. "You are never going to find perfection; it doesn't exist," Frankel says.   1707
