That stands for measles, mumps and rubella.Most children get the vaccine. It could explain why kids are less impacted by COVID-19.Testing on mice found these kinds of "live" vaccines boosted cells' ability to fight off sepsis.Sepsis is ultimately what's causing organ problems and inflammation in many adults who have contracted the novel coronavirus.“The idea behind it is, if these live attenuated vaccines are inducing the cells that will inhibit or dampen the sepsis, that gives the regular immune response time enough to get rid of the infection,” said Dr. Paul Fidel, a professor at LSU.The results of the "live" vaccine test on mice were undeniable.Researchers also point to what happened on the USS Roosevelt, where more than 1,200 sailors contracted the virus. A few were hospitalized and one died.All U.S. Navy recruits get MMR vaccinations.The professors are starting a grassroots campaign for adults to get the MMR booster.“If we're right, wow you would have the cells that would inhibit or dampen the sepsis if you ever got infected with COVID and if we're wrong, so OK you have a booster for MMR and that can’t hurt you at all,” said Fidel.“I think this concept with live attenuated vaccines inducing this response that controls the inflammation as opposed to targeting the actual viral infection, it’s going to serve as a stop gap measure until we get a real legitimate vaccine developed that’s been shown to be efficacious and safe,” said Dr. Mairi Noverr, a professor at Tulane’s school of medicine.The MMR vaccine theory is being tested on primates now. But as social media usage has exploded, more and more Americans are taking pictures with their ballots, and or at polling places. Most of these photos are harmless, but that doesn’t mean they’re fully legal in some states.In response, seveal states have changed their laws regarding ballot selfies.According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon and Utah have made changes to their laws in the last five years which allow some form of ballot selfies.Other states, however, have tried to curtail ballot selfies. For instance, Alabama passed a law last year that prohibits taking a photograph of a ballot, or otherwise revealing the contents of a completed ballot.Another state, New Hampshire, attempted to pass a law to restrict ballot selfies.However, a federal appeals court ruled 3-0 that the state had not shown that it was using the least restrictive means to achieve a compelling state interest of prohibiting voting fraud. According to the ruling, New Hampshire Secretary of State William Gardner was unable to show examples of how ballot photography led to voting fraud."The restriction affects voters who are engaged in core political speech, an area highly protected by the First Amendment," the ruling states. "There is an increased use of social media and ballot selfies in particular in service of political speech by voters. A ban on ballot selfies would suppress a large swath of political speech."Indiana also had a law passed in 2015 that would have made ballot selfies a felony struck down by a federal judge.In Colorado, the state made it legal in 2017 to take ballot pictures.Nationally, laws vary from state to state. While some states may permit photography of a completed mail-in ballot, the state might prohibit photography at a voting site.CNN has compiled a state-by-state list of what is permitted and not permitted in each state. 2104

(AP) — Friendly’s Restaurants, an East Coast dining chain known for its Fribble milkshake and ice cream sundaes, is filing for bankruptcy protection.All 130 of its locations will remain open while it restructures under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.Substantially all of its assets are being sold to the restaurant company, Amici Partners Group.“Over the last two years, Friendly’s has made important strides toward reinvigorating our beloved brand in the face of shifting demographics, increased competition, and rising costs,” said George Michel, the company's CEO. “We achieved this by delivering menu innovation, re-energizing marketing, focusing on take-out, catering and third-party delivery, establishing a better overall experience for customers, and working closely with our franchisees and restaurant teams. Unfortunately, like many restaurant businesses, our progress was suddenly interrupted by the catastrophic impact of COVID-19, which caused a decline in revenue as dine-in operations ceased for months and re-opened with limited capacity."The pandemic has hit the restaurant sector hard, particularly those that rely on people in their dining rooms.At least 10 chains have filed for bankruptcy protection since the pandemic began this year.But Friendly’s Restaurant, like most other chains that have stumbled this year, had been struggling.
