He says within a county there are high disparities, sometimes 15 years less based on where minorities or lower income people live.“Provide data in order to tell people this is what we see. These are the problems, keeping in mind you cannot change what you cannot measure,” said Mokdad.The CDC is also now requiring states to collect data about race, ethnicity, gender, and zip code for coronavirus cases.Racism in healthcare affects everyone, socially and economically.“What people don’t realize is we are paying for it one way or another and right now when you look at the United States, we spend more money on health than every other country,” said Mokdad.Mokdad and other health professionals we talked to all pointed to universal health care as another obvious solution to addressing structural racism. 1818

The Republican National Committee has withdrawn from a joint fundraising agreement with Roy Moore, according to a Federal Election Commission filing posted Tuesday, as the GOP establishment continues to break ties with the Alabama Senate candidate.The National Republican Senatorial Committee was the first to drop itself from the agreement, which benefits Moore's campaign, ending its participation last Friday, according to FEC filings. 466

The search for missing actress Naya Rivera at a California lake has moved from a rescue effort to a recovery effort, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office said Thursday.In a press release, the VCSO said that investigators believe that Rivera "drowned in what appears to be a tragic accident."The VCSO added that recovery efforts had been hampered because divers are experiencing low visibility in waters.Rivera was last seen on Wednesday at Lake Piru, which is located about 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles. The U.S. government is officially investigating Facebook.The Federal Trade Commission confirmed in a statement Monday that it is currently investigating Facebook data practices as the company faces new scrutiny from the Cambridge Analytica scandal."The FTC takes very seriously recent press reports raising substantial concerns about the privacy practices of Facebook," said Tom Pahl, acting director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection.
