(KGTV) — A local mother said her son and another teenager were attacked during a Black Lives Matter protest in Ramona.Heidi, who wanted to use only her first name, said her son Miguel had been peacefully protesting during the first week of June. Miguel recently graduated from high school. “I feel like our new generation is going to change something in the future,” he said.During the protest on June 5 in Ramona, he and his mother said men attacked him and his friend. She said the attack was unprovoked. Miguel said he moved his friend out of the way and that’s when the same man attacked him.“He hits me, I try to grab him so he won’t go away,” Miguel said. “Next thing… I get hit in the back. I was unconscious after that.”Heidi said the second hit came from a different man. She was at home when the Sheriff’s Department called her. “As a mother, it was very heartbreaking,” Heidi said.This is the second attack on protesters caught on camera that ABC 10News has covered recently. On June 7 in Imperial Beach, a man sucker-punched Marcus Boyd, a local businessman.Heidi said Miguel went to Pomerado Hospital with a concussion, sprained neck, and jaw. She is disappointed with where the Sheriff’s investigation stands. “Our officer was very, very nice. Are they doing all we think they should do? No.” Heidi said.Miguel plans to go to EMT school and eventually become a law enforcement officer. He said despite being attacked, he would still protest for causes he believes in.“I don't want my son to get hurt. but that being said, I'm not raising a man that's going to be afraid to voice his freedom of speech and liberty,” Heidi said.A Sheriff’s spokesperson told ABC 10News: “Deputies from the Ramona Sheriff’s Substation took a report about this incident. This is being investigated as a battery. As this is an open and active investigation, we can’t go into a lot of details to avoid jeopardizing the outcome of the case.” 2137

President Donald Trump tweeted a photo on Wednesday of rockets that were aimed at the US Embassy in Baghdad, and claimed that the rockets were fired by Iran.The attack came on Sunday, embassy officials confirmed. Recreational marijuana is now legal in Michigan after voters passed Proposal 1 during the midterm elections on Tuesday.The proposal was one of the most-talked-about issues on the ballot. It allows anyone 21 and older to legally carry 2.5 ounces of marijuana. “Obviously the results of today’s election were not what we hoped for. It is important to note that more Michiganders voted no on Proposal 18.1 than on the other two proposals," a spokesperson for Healthy and Productive Michigan said.The group was against proposal 1."While our side lost tonight, it is important to recognize the level of responsibility that now rests on the shoulders of those who have voted Yes," the spokesperson said. Michigan is now the 10th state in the United States and Washington D.C. that has legalized pot, but marijuana is still illegal when it comes to federal agencies.Anyone 21 and older living or visiting the state will be able to buy, possess and use marijuana and/or marijuana-infused edibles in the state. (AP) — California authorities have returned a pet tortoise to its owner after the wandering animal was spotted in another resident's backyard.The Record Searchlight reported the 41-year-old tortoise named Dino ambled away after a storm blew open the latch on its outdoor enclosure in Red Bluff.An animal regulation officer says the tortoise was found about a half-mile (0.8 kilometers) from the home of owner Cindy Haase.Authorities used watermelon to lure the 150-pound (68-kilogram) tortoise before lifting it into a vehicle for transport.Tehama County sheriff's deputies and the state forestry and fire protection department helped return Dino to Haase.Tortoise Acres Rescue and Sanctuary owner Katie Hoffman says this is breeding season and roaming pet tortoises seeking companionship are "a daily occurrence this time of year." 856

Thanks to determined residents, she'll soon get the help she needs to get the piping off. RELATED: North County woman, neighbors trying to save coyote ensnared in plastic pipingTuesday night a rescue group sent a photo of the coyote, lovingly named "Myrtle," to 10News. Myrtle was first spotted sometime in April. Katie Ryan lives in the area and kept an eye on the animal's condition as she continued to pop up around the neighborhood.
