LONDON (AP) — An artist has erected a statue of a Black Lives Matter protester atop the plinth in the English city of Bristol once occupied by the toppled statue of a slave trader. Marc Quinn created the likeness of Jen Reid, a protester photographed standing on the plinth after demonstrators pulled down the statue of Edward Colston and dumped it in Bristol's harbor on June 7. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Monday is Kobe Bryant Day in Los Angeles and Orange County, honoring the late Los Angeles Lakers star, and it'll be highlighted by a move to rename a downtown stretch of Figueroa Street outside Staples Center in recognition of his legacy."This is a gift to the city of Los Angeles and to all the Kobe Bryant fans around the world," City Councilman Curren Price said in a statement announcing a proposal to rename the street. The complex new rules announced late Wednesday set in place an “equity metric.” It will force larger counties to control the spread of COVID-19 in areas where Black, Latino and Pacific Islander groups have suffered a disproportionate share of the cases because of a variety of socioeconomic factors.
