SIRTE, Libya, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese special envoy to the Middle East Wu Sike will convey on Saturday a message from President Hu Jintao to the Arab leaders during their 22nd summit billed "Summit of supporting Jerusalem' Steadfastness," kicked off today in the Libyan city of Sirte.In an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency, Wu said he came to the Arab summit, carrying a message from Chinese President Hu Jintao to the Arab leaders, extending congratulations on the occasion of the summit.China is paying much attention to the promotion of relations with the Arab world, Wu said, adding that China appreciates and supports the Arab efforts aiming to enhance cooperation and solidarity between the two sides.Speaking of the Chinese position towards the Israeli practices in the occupied lands, Wu said that China supports the Arab endeavors aiming to reach peace.The Chinese stance is cut-clear in this regard, Wu stressed, noting that China supports reaching a solution to the issue, based on international legitimacy resolutions, which state that Israel has no rights to impose any changes on lands occupied in 1967.Wu also pointed to China's long-standing position calling for the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state and for peaceful coexistence between Israel and the Palestinians, saying this is China's permanent position which it will adhere to in all international forums.About China's vision towards the Israeli settlement activity, Wu said China categorically rejects the settlement activities in the occupied lands.During contacts with Israel, China showed commitment to this stance, to the importance of stopping the settlement activities, and to creating favorable circumstances for talks, Wu noted, saying that his attendance of the Arab summit comes within China's support for the Arabs, and to coordinate stances between the two sides.As for the Arab-Chinese Cooperation Forum, due to be held this May in China, Wu said that China and the Arab world are bound with favorable political ties and expanded, intensive economic cooperation.In the light of the global economic crisis, the strengthening of Chinese-Arab cooperation is of high importance.Over the past six years following the establishment of China- Arab Cooperation Forum, bilateral relations have seen tangible development, Wu said.The fourth session of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum, slated for May 13-14, will see an assessment of the Arab-Chinese cooperation over the past six years and means to push this cooperation forward in the future.China is represented by a delegation at the 22nd Arab summit, entitled "Summit of Supporting Jerusalem's Steadfastness," as an observer.

BEIJING, April 29 (Xinhua) -- China's parliament on Thursday adopted the Law on Guarding State Secrets and the amended State Compensation Law at the closing session.Wu Bangguo，chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People' s Congress, or the top legislature, presided over the closing of the four-day bimonthly session.Wu said, the amendment to the State Compensation Law will regulate the use of public power, protect legitimate rights and interests of citizens, legal persons and social organizations. The 14th session of the Standing Committee of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC) concludes in Beijing, capital of China, on April 29, 2010. Wu Bangguo, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, presided over the concluding meeting.Wu said, the Law on Guarding State Secrets has made clear legal liability in guarding state secrets, which will help safeguard the state security and interests.The legislature also reviewed the report on migrant workers which stressed protecting the rights and interests of this group and improving social services for them. Wu also urged to quicken the pace of urbanization.The Standing Committee reviewed the report on the development of cultural industry which urged greater development of the industry so that it becomes a new engine of economic growth.Wu said the Committee also reviewed the report on road traffic management.

XIANGNING, Shanxi, April 5 (Xinhua) –- Nine miners trapped under the flooded Wangjialing coal mine in north China's Shanxi Province were taken out of the shaft Monday morning miraculously to safety, after 179 hours underground.The survivors were immediately sent to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Their blood pressure and heart rates remained normal after having being trapped in the shaft for one week.One of the survivors, named Li Guoyu, 38, had a lucid mind and told doctors that he comes from central China's Henan Province. HONG KONG, April 23 (Xinhua) -- The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region held Friday a grand funeral ceremony to say goodbye to well-known businessman Tsui Tsin-tong, who was also a noted social activist, philanthropist and a close friend to the Communist Party of China.Tsui was also a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee before he died of an illness on April 2 this year in the Chinese capital of Beijing at the age of 69.Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, the country's top advisory body, and Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping had both sent messages of condolences to Tsui's family after Tsui's death.In their messages of condolences, Jia and Xi praised Tsui for his great contributions to Hong Kong's stable transition, smooth handover from Britain to China and Hong Kong's lasting prosperity, as well as Tsui's contributions to Chinese mainland's reform-and- opening-up drive and modernization.Tsui's funeral ceremony was held at Hong Kong's landmark Convention and Exhibition Center in the day. Tsui's cinerary casket was covered with a Chinese national flag.Tung Chee-hwa, vice chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, Chief Executive of the HKSAR Donald Tsang and Peng Qinghua, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR attended the funeral ceremony.Peng recalled in his memorial speech Tsui's life, his contributions to Chinese mainland's reform-and-opening-up drive and modernization as well as China's peaceful re-unification.Hundreds of representatives from the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, the HKSAR government, Hong Kong's Legislative Council and other government agencies, as well as Tsui's friends, also attended Tsui's funeral ceremony.
