CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- The South Bay community is mourning the sudden loss of a beloved Olympian High School teacher.Vanessa Sholty’s family said she suffered a stroke on Friday and passed away Sunday. She was only 39-years-old.Sholty’s sister, Rebecca Webb, spoke about her love for teaching dance and her love for children. “She’s been dancing for her whole life. She loves to dance and teach the kids to dance,” Webb said.Sholty taught dance and physical education at Olympian High School in Chula Vista. With distance learning and COVID-19 protocols, Sholty — like the other teachers — made adjustments.“She set up her whole living room like a dance studio,” Webb said.Sholty leaves behind her husband and two young children. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with costs.“We were not prepared for any of this,” Sholty said. “I walk into her house and I see all her school stuff still there because she had she was working that day… it's just some major shock for us all.”Webb said support from the community, including messages from students and fellow staff members, is helping them keep strong.“Her passing has deeply affected us all,” said a post on the Olympian High School Facebook page. “We have grief counselors available for anyone wishing to talk about this tragic event. (KGTV) — Now that guidance has been issued for playgrounds to reopen in California, Chula Vista says it reopened all of its 50 playgrounds on Friday.The city said the reopening process for its playgrounds includes guidance for visitors to follow to help curb the spread of the coronavirus:Visitors over the age of two need face coveringsUsers should wash and sanitize hands before and after useMaintain six-foot distancing from those outside your householdCaregiver supervision/monitoring required at all times to ensure guidelines are followedFollow maximum occupancy rules that are posted at entrance to each playgroundChula Vista says it will implement regular cleaning protocols, but warn that the locations may get a lot of use as they reopen. China’s government says all 9 million people in the eastern city of Qingdao will be tested for the coronavirus this week after nine cases linked to a hospital were found. The announcement broke a string of weeks without any locally transmitted infections reported in China, though the country has a practice of not reporting asymptomatic cases. The National Health Commission said authorities were investigating the source of the infections found in eight patients at Qingdao’s Municipal Chest Hospital and one family member. (KGTV) - Two threats to shoot students at Bonita Vista High School spread in a snap on social media Sunday, scaring students and parents, making them wary to go back to class Monday."It kinda caught fire on Snapchat that's where it spread like wildfire and everyone was talking about it it was everywhere," Bonita Vista High senior Andrew Garcia said. It was a screenshot of an Instagram comment that read, "Shooting up on the campus Monday. I like some of you. Try to skip school if you value your life." Another comment below read, "I don't think you guys are gonna wanna hide in the 900s," apparently referring to the campus' "math village."Another threat coming out around 9:30 p.m. with a similar message.
