County as well as Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties."Here are the two sites that broke their all-time high temperature records today. 121° was the highest ever recorded at an official site in L.A. County. Ditto for Paso Robles 117° in San Luis Obispo County. A comprehensive list of all records will be sent later today," the National Weather Service said in a report Sunday. As California sees record heat, fire departments across the state are battling wildfires. One brush fire, in San Bernardino County, was caused by a pyrotechnic device used at a gender reveal party, according to officials. That fire is just one of several around California that prompted Gov. Gavin Newsom to declare a state of emergency in multiple counties on Sunday. This story was originally published by Austin Westfall at KERO. 1496

LORAIN, Ohio - A family has filed a lawsuit against the Lorain County School District in Lorain, Ohio after their daughter was wrongly accused of bringing drug-laced candy to lunch in September and suspended.Shannon Ciotti and her daughter have filed a suit naming the district, the Lorain City Board of Education, every board member, the district CEO and the Lorain Police Department.Ciotti said her daughter was suspended immediately from Southview Middle School after being accused of bringing tainted candy, before any test was ever conducted on the candy. The director of out of school suspension cited Ciotti’s daughter with a level three violation – possession of marijuana edibles. The lawsuit states a 10-day suspension turned into 21 because the police department took so long to test the candy. The box of Milk Duds was not properly tagged as evidence and sat on a shelf in the police department, “untested and abandoned,” the court filing states. It was only after the crime lab found out from Ciotti that the evidence was improperly tagged that they tested the candy. The family also contacted the Hershey Company, who tested the batch of Milk Duds for illegal substances, the suit states.Hershey came to the same conclusion that Lorain police eventually did: the candy contained no illegal substances.According to the lawsuit, the teen has been harassed and ridiculed since returning to Southview Middle School. Fellow students have called her names like “pothead,” and a teacher allegedly mocked the girl, saying, “I hope you’re not planning on exchanging candy. We’ve been down that road before.”The lawsuit seeks ,000 in compensatory damages and over ,000,000 in punitive damages for negligence, gross negligence and defamation on behalf of the school and police. 1796

LOS ANGELES (KGTV/CNS) - A person infected with measles passed through Los Angeles International Airport twice in late May and public health officials are urging anyone who may have been exposed to check their immunization records and report any possible symptoms.According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the infected person -- who does not live in the area -- passed through LAX twice during the Memorial Day weekend.Possibly exposure may have occurred:-- between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. May 26 at LAX Terminal 4 at Gate 48B; and-- between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. May 28 at the Tom Bradley International Terminal Remote Gate.Health officials noted that anyone who may have been in those areas may be at risk of developing measles for up to 21 days following exposure.People who think they may have been exposed were urged to check their immunization history and contact their health care provider by phone, particularly if they are pregnant or have a weakened immune system. People who develop possible symptoms, such as illness with fever or an unexplained rash, should stay home and call their health care provider.Southern California doctors have been warning the region to watch out for the illness as cases increase across the U.S. this year. In May, CDC officials said the U.S. had already seen its highest amount of measles cases in three decades. In SoCal, San Diego and Los Angeles have been considered high-risk counties for measles cases."Measles is preventable and the way to end this outbreak is to ensure that all children and adults who can get vaccinated, do get vaccinated. Again, I want to reassure parents that vaccines are safe, they do not cause autism. The greater danger is the disease that vaccination prevents," said CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield.Measles was eliminated in the U.S. in 2000, meaning it was no longer continuously transmitted. So far this year, at least 26 states have seen cases. 1951

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Several Republican candidates gained ground in updated vote counts in closely fought House districts in Southern California. In the 50th District anchored in San Diego County, Republican former Rep. Darrell Issa padded his lead to more than 16,000 votes. The district was previously held by Republican Duncan Hunter, who resigned after pleading guilty to conspiracy to misuse campaign funds for personal use.As of Friday afternoon, Issa led Democratic challenger Ammar Campa-Najjar 146,398 to 130,226 votes, with 66% of precincts reporting.Republicans are trying to recapture some of the seven districts the party lost to Democrats in 2018.Republican Rep. Mike Garcia in the 25th District north of Los Angeles was trailing Democrat Christy Smith but Thursday's vote count update gave him a slight edge. In the 48th District in Orange County, Republican Michelle Steel added about 2,000 votes to her lead over Democratic Rep. Harley Rouda. 966

Long-time cartoon sitcom “The Simpsons” announced on Friday that non-white characters will no longer be voiced by white actors.“Moving forward, THE SIMPSONS will no longer have white actors voice non-white characters,” the show said in a statement on Friday. While the main characters on the cartoon are white, there are several characters of color. Most notably, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, who was voiced by Hank Azaria. In 2018, Azaria said that he would no longer voice the convenience store clerk after the show faced criticism that Nahasapeemapetilon’s character plays up Indian-American stereotypes“The most important thing is, we have to listen to South Asian, Indian people in this country when they talk about how they feel and what they think about this character,” Azaria said on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”Several other minor characters of color on “The Simpsons” include Officer Lou and Carl Carlson, both of whom were also voiced by Azaria.Earlier on Friday, Mike Henry, who voices Black character Cleveland Brown on Fox cartoon sitcom "Family Guy," announced he will no longer voice Brown. "It’s been an honor to play Cleveland on Family Guy for 20 years. I love this character, but persons of color should play characters of color. Therefore, I will be stepping down from the role," Henry said. 1324
