VALLEY CENTER (CNS) - The first two homebuilders were named Wednesday for a master-planned community to be built on the site of a former dairy farm in Valley Center.Shea Homes and Beazer Homes will construct some of the 632 planned residences in the 186-acre Park Circle being developed by Touchstone Communities, a San Diego-based real estate investment and land development company.Walnut-based Shea Homes has an office in San Diego. Beazer Homes, based out of Atlanta, has built communities in Fallbrook and Oceanside.The Park Circle community will be the core of Valley Center's South Village and has been in the making for seven years. The first model homes are expected to be completed later this year.Details throughout the community will pay homage to the former Konyn Dairy, which operated on the site for nearly 40 years before closing in 2008, according to the developer."Beazer and Shea have proven reputations and family-focused attitudes, which made selecting them an easy choice," said Kerry Garza, president of Touchstone Communities.The overall master plan will feature homes ranging from 1,300 to 3,300 square feet in a variety of architectural styles across eight distinct neighborhoods."We are honored to be part of the exciting new Park Circle community. Two World Health Organization experts are heading to the Chinese capital on Friday to lay the groundwork for a larger mission to investigate the origins of the coronavirus.An animal health expert and an epidemiologist will meet Chinese counterparts in Beijing to set the “scope and terms of reference” for a WHO-led international mission aimed at learning how the virus jumped from animals to humans, a WHO statement said.Scientists believe the virus may have originated in bats and was transmitted to another mammal such as a civet cat or an armadillo-like pangolin before being passed on to people.A cluster of infections late last year focused initial attention on a fresh food market in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, but the discovery of earlier cases suggests the animal-to-human jump may have happened elsewhere.In an effort to block future outbreaks, China has cracked down on the trade in wildlife and closed some markets, while enforcing strict containment measures that appear to have virtually stopped new local infections.The WHO mission is politically sensitive, with the U.S. — the top funder of the U.N. body — moving to cut ties with it over allegations it mishandled the outbreak and is biased toward China.“China took the lead in inviting WHO experts to investigate and discuss scientific virus tracing,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said Friday.In contrast, he said, the U.S. “not only announced its withdrawal from the World Health Organization, but also politicized the anti-epidemic issue and played a buck-passing game to shift responsibilities.”More than 120 nations called for an investigation into the origins of the virus at the World Health Assembly in May. Twitter is about to get more words -- a lot more.The company announced on Tuesday it is doubling how many characters users can cram into a tweet.Most tweets will now fit 280 characters, up from 140. The new limit will roll out to Twitter users in almost all 40 languages Twitter supports.In late September, Twitter began a test of 280-character tweets with a small group of users.Like many Twitter changes, some users complained about the move.Interestingly, Twitter said that after the novelty of tweeting more characters wore off, most people in the test stopped tweeting the full length.According to the company, only 5% of tweets sent from people in the 280-character test group were longer than 140 characters, and just 2% were over 190 characters.The new character length won't apply to Japanese, Korean or Chinese-language tweets. Those languages can convey twice as much information in less space, so tweets will remain at 140 characters, Twitter said.Of course, the change means America's highest-profile Twitter user, President Trump, will have more space. Twitter cofounder Biz Stone had said the prolific Twitter user was not in the test group.The move modifies a fundamental aspect of Twitter. Aside from the test, the social network's character limit hasn't changed since the company launched in 2006.The 140-character length wasn't a random choice: Twitter's founders wanted tweets to fit in a text message, which can only hold 160 characters. So Twitter chose 140 characters for the tweet, and 20 characters for the user name.During the 280-character test, some users argued Twitter should focus less on the length of the tweets and more on the content. UNION, Ky. — A 17-year-old girl faked a school shooting threat at Ryle High School in Union, Kentucky because she didn't want to go to class on Wednesday, according to a news release from the Boone County Sheriff's Office. Classes are still on, but she'll get her wish. The girl was arrested Tuesday night and booked into the Campbell County Juvenile Detention Center. The threat, which deputies said she made herself but pretended to have received via Snapchat, was the fourth of its kind targeted at Ryle in just two days. Three other teenagers — two 15-year-olds and one 17-year-old — were arrested Monday for making "terroristic threats."The girl's mother called police Tuesday night, Sgt. Philip Ridgell wrote in the news release. She believed her daughter had just received a threat reading, "since nobody showed up to school today just sat till tomorrow, i'm going to drive past the cafeteria during 3rd lunch and just shoot non stop."In reality, Ridgell said, the girl had created it. Deputies who questioned her about the threat noted inconsistent responses and ultimately learned she had posted it to her own Snapchat story because she did not want to go to school.After confessing, she tried to flee on foot. Two conservative activists have been charged with multiple felonies in Michigan for a series of false robocalls that aimed to dissuade urban residents in Detroit and other cities from voting by mail. Jacob Wohl, 22, and Jack Burkman, 54, each were charged Thursday with four felony counts in Detroit, including intimidating voters in violation of election law, conspiracy and using a computer to commit crimes. The calls falsely warned residents in majority-Black Detroit and urban areas in at least four other states that voting by mail in the Nov. 3 election could subject people to arrest, debt collection and forced vaccination.
