Two police officers were shot Wednesday evening in Louisville amid protests following an announcement that the two officers involved in fatally shooting Breonna Taylor would not be criminally charged, Louisville Metro Police Chief Robert Schroeder confirmed.The officers are in "very serious condition," but they're expected to survive their injuries, Schroeder told reporters. One of the officers needed surgery following Wednesday's incident. The other officer is "alert and stable."A suspect is in custody, Schroeder said.The officers were reportedly shot at Brook and Broadway in Louisville, which is near the University of Louisville Hospital in downtown.The city went under a 9 p.m. ET curfew as thousands of protesters have clashed with police throughout the city.The incident was captured live on the Louisville Metro Police Facebook page.President Donald Trump and Joe Biden both reacted to Wednesday's shootings. "It can still work."Atibu's home is gutted out, still she, her husband and four children are still living in it."I know it's not a safe place to be but I don't know where else I can go," Atibu says.More than 20,000 people are still in shelters or FEMA hotels in Texas. And even though flood waters are gone, mold and mosquitoes are still here along with the threat of sickness and disease. In hard-hit Port Arthur and Beaumont, people are still struggling to find the basics like food and water.But right now, all eyes are focused on Florida where people are just beginning picking up the pieces left in Irma's wake. They're clearing debris from roads and checking for damage, so that those who evacuated can return to their homes.  But millions are still without power and boil water advisories are in place in many areas.In the U.S. Virgin Islands people are still being evacuated to Puerto Rico.St. Thomas Evacuee Patrice Harris says, "Being in a state where I'm not sure what's going to happen next, not sure where I'm gonna get my next meal, that's something that's very discomforting for me. So I'm happy to have been able to leave the island."All said, this is going to be a long recovery. The latest estimates show together, hurricanes Harvey and Irma have caused between 150 billion and 200 billion dollars in damage. Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey says "we're ready to question everything" about the social networking site that has been overrun by spam, abuse and misinformation.Dorsey says he and his team are working extensively behind the scenes to stamp out some of the harassment and hate speech that has generated bad headlines lately.But it is a long-term effort, he says, and he is reluctant to commit to an exact timetable for certain changes to Twitter's foundation.In twelve years, "we've changed a lot. But we haven't changed the underlying fundamentals," Dorsey told CNN in an in-depth interview at the company's headquarters on Friday.The basic fundamentals are what he is examining now. For instance: What does Twitter incentivize its users to do?"Every product decision we make is 'telling' them to do something," Dorsey said.So he is thinking about how to help users follow topics and hashtags, not just people."We are aware of some of the silos and how we're isolating people by only giving them crude tools to follow accounts. Tribune Media found another buyer after its last merger was scuttled.Nexstar Media Group announced Monday it will buy Tribune's 42 television stations and cable network in an all-cash .1 billion deal. The merger will form the nation's largest TV station company. Tribune's stock (TRCO) is surging 10% in premarket trading.The acquisition comes four months after Sinclair Broadcast Group's attempted purchase of Tribune was terminated. The two companies are still embroiled in lawsuits over the failed merger, which came under intense scrutiny from government regulators and criticism from public watchdogs.The sheer size of Nexstar will massively enlarge the Texas-based media company. If approved, the combined company will own more than 200 TV stations and cover 39% of US households.Nexstar will now gain a foothold in major markets, including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago for the first time, plus a cable channel (WGN America) and a 31% stake in the Food Network.Nexstar CEO Perry Sook said in a release that the two companies has a "clear path to closing.""Nexstar has long viewed the acquisition of Tribune Media as a strategically, financially and operationally compelling opportunity that brings immediate value to shareholders of both companies," Sook said.The company acknowledged it will have to sell some local TV stations to get approved.The long wait for a buyer is good news for Tribune shareholders: The new deal is a 45% spike in value of its stock compared to its July 16, 2018 closing price when Federal Communications Commission Chair Ajit Pai called for a hearing over the Sinclair-Tribune deal. 1632
