CORONADO (KGTV) — New rules go into effect on Thursday, August 16, restricting where people can and can't use e-cigarettes in Coronado.The City Council passed an ordinance on July 17 to make the popular devices subject to the same rules as regular cigarettes, banning their use in many public places.According to the new law, e-cigarettes will no longer be allowed in the following unenclosed areas:1. All public property including, but not limited to, streets, highways, alleys, rights-of-way, parkways, sidewalks, parking lots and pathways; 2. Outdoor public places; 3. Outdoor recreational areas; 4. Outdoor service areas; 5. Outdoor dining areas.An exception has been made for the Municipal Golf Course, where smoking is also allowed.Anyone caught breaking the new rule could be subject to a 0 fine. The city will put up new signs to let people know of the change.Language in the City Council proposition showed that city leaders feared vaping devices and the smoke from them could be dangerous to the public health. They also wanted to eliminate confusion by having different rules for different kinds of smoking.E-cigarette advocates say bans like these are counter-productive.The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-Free Alternatives Association sent a statement to 10News that reads, in part, "Smoking laws that include a ban on vaping send the inaccurate and misleading message that e-cigarettes are just as harmful as smoking. To date, there is no credible scientific evidence to support this claim. Arguably, vaping bans do more harm than good as smokers see switching to smoke-free products as having no advantage over the combustible products they will continue to use." 1712

CLAREMORE, Okla. -- A Black Lives Matter group in Oklahoma group is calling a symbol at a museum outside of Tulsa offensive and asking for it to be removed. The cornerstone of the Claremore Museum of History contains a swastika, but some historians argue that the symbol was included before the rise of Nazi Germany.“It was the cornerstone in Clem Van Rogers livery stable," Will Rogers Memorial Museum Public Relations Director Pat Reeder said. “They sold it for 0 and in 1936 they started this building and Will had already died and they decided to name it for him."It's a piece of history that's been around for more than 100 years and sits on the south side of the building at the Claremore Museum of History. "I think it’s offensive to me that someone would think that a cornerstone would be so hate-filled you’d have to remove it," Reeder said. The symbol on top of the cornerstone is under fire. “For Native Americans, it was very much life, earth and sun that’s what it meant to them," Reeder said.Reeder remembers it as a patch on soldiers uniforms of the 45th division in World War I, who were mostly from Oklahoma. “I couldn’t find anything that called it a name," she said. "I think it was given the name when Hitler decided he needed a symbol.” Reverend Mareo Johnson, a Black Lives Matter activist in Tulsa, Oklahoma, wants the cornerstone removed. “When you see it now it’s a public representation of hate and regardless of what it meant then it’s how people see it now," he said. Reverend Johnson says the meaning has changed overtime and wants any sign of hate removed. “The swastika sign is the main point and everything else is fine it’s that symbol that is connected to hate," he said. He wants the country to move forward. “I don’t believe that it will be too hard of a process because it’s very understandable," Rev. Johnson sad. Reeder argues that the monument has largely flown under the radar in the decades since it's been installed.Rev. Colleges and universities are looking ahead to the spring semester as the pandemic continues.Schools like Georgetown University, Smith College, Princeton University and the University of Florida (UF) are either inviting undergrads to live on campus starting in January, or are bringing back more students for face-to-face learning.Princeton and UF are among the universities that will test students and staff regularly.UF already has students living on campus and has more than 14,000 undergrads registered to take in-person classes in the spring.“We feel it's important to move the campus back to normalcy to the extent possible. Because in the end, a university is really a community of people, living and working and researching together. And we feel it is important to bring people back and reestablish that sense of community,” said Joe Glover, Sr. VP of Academic Affairs at UF.While having 14,000 undergrads on campus sounds like a large number, that’s less than half of the 36,000 undergrads who are enrolled at the university located in Gainesville. The campus has reduced class sizes and is already near capacity of what they can handle, while being socially distanced.Before the pandemic, many states required college students to have the bacterial meningitis vaccine if they want to live on campus. That still stands, but now there is a possibility universities could have a similar requirement for the COVID-19 vaccine.“Until it moves from emergency use to a more normal, permanent approval, that will probably remain in the realm of possibility or theoretical possibility,” said Glover.Ultimately, it is up to states to decide whether this should be a requirement. CYPRESS, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man was tackled in the middle of a Southern California Target store for reportedly taking pictures up women's skirts.According to Cypress Police, officers were notified that the man, later identified as Jorge Ibarra, 29, was taking pictures targeting women wearing skirts.The suspect then fled from the scene after being tackled to the ground by one of the women’s father.
