YOKOHAMA, Japan, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao put forward a five-point proposal on Saturday to promote sound and fast economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region.Hu made the proposal at the 18th Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, which opened here Saturday afternoon.Firstly, Hu asked the APEC economies to "promote balanced growth to create conditions for long-term economic development," saying they should seek balanced growth both within a member economy and among all member economies."We should increase input to help developing members achieve their full potential and narrow the North-South gap," Hu said.He called on APEC members to move toward a more rational division of labor, a more balanced financial and trade structure, more efficient allocation of resources and more equitable sharing of benefits.Efforts by APEC members in this aspect "will contribute to balanced and coordinated global economic growth," he said.Secondly, President Hu said the APEC members should "advocate inclusive growth to boost the internal dynamism of economic development."He called on all members to focus on economic development, uphold social equity and justice and adhere to the people-first principle so that all countries, regions and groups could benefit from economic globalization and development.
ADDIS ABABA, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopian Minister of Finance and Economic Development Sufian Ahmed and a Chinese delegation led by Liu Liange, deputy president of Export-Import Bank of China (China Eximbank), on Monday discussed projects financed by the EximBank here in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.The two sides exchanged ideas on ways of enhancing cooperation in infrastructure development and other sectors. Speaking at the discussion, Sufian said the two countries have been enjoying good relations in all sectors.He said China has forged good relations with the African continent in general and Ethiopia in particular."Particularly the relations between the two countries are increasing from time to time...We also thank the supporting hand of the Chinese government and the Chinese institutions. BEIJING, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- China's efforts to deal with lawsuit-related public petitions have seen positive results with 616 such cases being resolved as of the end of October, figures from the Ministry of Justice show.Since March, when a campaign to manage cases of public petitions and complaints began, judicial and administrative departments across the country have dealt with 6,501 lawsuit-related petition cases."In order to avoid lawsuit-related public petitions from the root, prisons and detention centers across the country have launched training programs for prison police to promote their management and law enforcement capacities," Vice Minister Hao Chiyong said Wednesday at a meeting.In China, many public petitions and complaints involved mistreatment of prisoners in detention centers as police sought confessions by allegedly torturing detainees."Through these efforts, the number of lawsuit-related petition cases have dropped significantly," Hao said.In addition to police training, local governments were told to carefully consider and check corruption-prone cases and those strongly felt by the public, and deal with these cases in accordance with laws and regulations.According to Hao, the ministry is planning to let mediation play a larger role in solving public conflicts and complaints by organizing legal workers to provide legal aid and guide people to express their demands in a reasonable manner.Figures released this September by the State Council Information Office show that, in 2009, the number of letters from, and visits of people for petitioning, dropped by 2.7 percent over the previous year, a decrease for the fifth consecutive year.

BEIJING, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- China vowed Wednesday that it would continue efforts to expand and upgrade its rural power grid networks in the next five years to meet the increasing demand.Safe, environmentally-friendly, and technologically-advanced rural power networks are expected to cover most of the nation's rural areas to ensure better electricity use for rural residents during the country's 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-2015), according to a statement issued after a State Council executive meeting chaired by Premier Wen Jiabao.Full-fledged power networks are still beyond reach for some rural residents in China's central and western rural regions, despite government moves to expand rural networks beginning in 1998, the statement said.Relevant departments should step up efforts to improve power generation facilities for irrigation and farm produce processing to ensure power consumption of agriculture production, the statement said.Further, participants at the meeting also pledged to slash rural power prices.
