Coca-Cola wants Americans to give Coke Energy a shot.The beverage company will start selling four varieties of its energy drink — Coca-Cola Energy, Coca-Cola Energy Zero Sugar, Coca-Cola Energy Cherry and Coca-Cola Energy Cherry Zero Sugar — in the United States in mid-January. Coke Energy and Coke Energy Zero Sugar are already available internationally, but the cherry flavor is new.The new product is designed to help Coke to introduce Coca-Cola drinkers, who may not consume energy drinks, to a growing category. It's also a way for the company to make sure that its core Coca-Cola brand remains fresh.But first, Coca-Cola has to make sure drinkers understand just what Coke Energy is.A boost of energyCoca-Cola Energy has 114 mg of caffeine in each 12-ounce serving.That's nearly four times the caffeine in a can of regular Coca-Cola (34 mg), and three times the caffeine in a can of Diet Coke (46 mg).It will be more expensive, too: Coca-Cola Energy will have a recommended price of .49 per 12-ounce container. Similarly-sized regular Cokes are generally sold in packs of 12, and cost about per package (about 33 cents each).In the United States, total energy drink and energy shot sales reached about .5 billion in 2018, up 30% from 2013, according to a report from research group Mintel. Dinosaurs are no longer roaming the earth, but their tracks live on. In the foothills on the Front Range of Colorado, a story can be told from pieces of the past left behind.Dinosaur Ridge has been ranked by a panel of esteemed paleontologists as the no. 1 track site in all the U.S. One of those world-renowned paleontologists is Martin Lockley, who has spent his life studying dinosaur tracks.“You're looking at a snapshot of an ancient environment," Lockley says.In an area of just a few hundred square feet, 330 dinosaur tracks have been discovered. However, the land was very different 100 million years ago. Lockley says the giant prehistoric animals weren't a mile high in the Rocky Mountains.They were on the beach at sea level in an environment very similar to present day Gulf of Mexico.“We like to joke and call this beach-front property a 100 million years ago," Lockley says.The soft, wet, sandy land made conditions ideal for preserving tracks."If they're walking on wet sediment, like a beach or a mud flat or the shores of a lake, and it dries out, it becomes hard like concrete," Lockley explains. "And the next time there's a flood washing in more sediment, it will bury those tracks without them being eroded away."Experts believe three different dinosaurs made their mark on this patch of land. Lockley says it's possible they were migrating along what used to be a coast. It's clear the western U.S. was a popular place to be, because there are more than 120 dinosaur track sites from Kansas to Utah. Martin suggests part of the reason is less vegetation in these states means more fossilized rock is exposed.But if there are so many track sites, what makes Dinosaur Ridge the top of all track sites? Executive Director Jeff Lamontagne, with Friends of Dinosaur Ridge, says there was a list of criteria the panel considered."How many tracks there are, the variety of dinosaurs seen in the tracks, the importance of the tracks, the clarity of the tracks, the accessibility and number of visitors," Lamontagne explains.Accessibility is the main reason Dinosaur Ridge has become so highly regarded."It's right outside a major metropolitan area, and there's a major road just a quarter mile from here," he says. "It's easy to see this compared to most other dinosaur track sites in the United States and in the world."People can get so close to the tracks; in some places you can even touch them. Although the tracks have been well-preserved for millions of years, their current exposure to humans and the elements could make them erode over time.Thankfully, with current technology, scientists can scan the surface and re-create it as 3-D permanent record. They also plan to build a cover to protect the land.However, Friends of Dinosaur Ridge believe the hands-on part of the site is important for kids to continue learning about the planet's past. DETROIT — Police say a 23-year-old man died Saturday when he was trying to take apart his handgun and it discharged. The incident happened at 6:40 p.m. in Detroit.Police say that when they arrived the man was attempting to transport himself to a local hospital. The officer then applied a tourniquet to the victim's left leg. Witnesses on the scene detailed what occurred before officers arrived. COOLIDGE, Arizona — The states neighboring Mexico are looking at options, along with the federal government, on how to build a fence or wall along the border.Build 218 miles of border fence with access roads for the Border Patrol. Incorporate high-tech surveillance and facial recognition cameras. Promise the job will be completed in a year, at a cost of .285 billion dollars. That bold sales pitch brought members of Congress from nine states to Coolidge, Airzona on Tuesday."When they said they had secured a bond for the full amount of the contract to build the 220 some odd miles in a year on budget, on time, that's got to be attractive does it not?" said East Valley Congressman Andy Biggs. Biggs arranged an up close look at how Fisher proposes to install the wall along four sections of the border: 42 miles near Yuma, 69 miles near El Paso, Texas, 16 miles near El Centro, California and the longest stretch 91-miles south of Tucson. "I want to show we're not just building a barrier. We're building infrastructure for Border Patrol Agents," said Fisher President and CEO Tommy Fisher. Fisher says his team can dig a trench insert the iron-steel fence and fill in the base with concrete at a rate of a mile a day. "I am impressed," Congressman Biggs said, "it seems a pretty efficient way to do it."Fisher's original bid was rejected because the company said it was penalized for not doing any current work on the border. The demonstration was an attempt to build support in Congress that it should be reconsidered. The members who came to Coolidge were all Republicans. No Democrats showed. They were invited Congressman Biggs said, "I would have loved for them to come," Biggs said, "Even if they walked away feeling different about things than I do, I will still like them to see this." Congresswoman Debbie Lesko, who represents the West Valley and is a member of the Homeland Security Committee said, "on the border wall they will not give at all. They don't want any money coming to a border fence or border wall. That's unfortunate. It's part of the solution."Congressman Biggs and Congresswoman Lesko say there is money available from drug interdiction, asset forfeiture, and the federal budget which can be used to fund border wall construction while the courts decide whether the President's Emergency Declaration is legal.
