DEL MAR (KGTV): The Del Mar Racetrack will open it's fall season Friday afternoon, it's the fifth year of the Bing Crosby Racing Season."You got 16 days to basically, do everything," says CEO Joe Harper. The shorter season features smaller crowds and smaller fields, but trainer Peter Miller says that's part of its charm."It's easy to get a drink. It's easy to get a bet down. It's easy to watch the races. It's better," he says. "And it's better to train the horses on this kind of a laid back, easy going situation."Miller's horses won 31 races at Del Mar over the summer. He hopes to have similar success over the next month.Around the track, Harper says betters can have success by getting more access to horses and betting lines."It's a short meet. It's full of good horses and good racing. It's a local's meet, which I love, a little less hectic than the summer," says Harper. The track has 16 days of racing planned, and every day has some kind of theme, festival or concert. That includes a special Veterans Day event and even a Thanksgiving dinner for families that want to take in the races on the holiday.Full details on tickets and events can be found here.  1187

Darrell Issa is standing by a new ad about Carl DeMaio that the chair of the San Diego Republican party called "highly inappropriate." The ad uses imagery of MS-13 and uses headlines with the word "Gay" to describe DeMaio. Despite the president calling for a boycott of Goodyear tires, his campaign’s NASCAR vehicle must race with the tire this summer. The reason? NASCAR has an official partnership with Goodyear, as Goodyear is the “Official Tire of NASCAR.”Go Fas Racing general manager Mason St. Hilaire told Fox Business that the choice is either drive with Goodyear tires, or no tires at all.“We just have one way to run them,” St. Hilaire told FOX Business. “It’s either those tires or no tires. We don’t have much of a choice. There should be two. I don’t know if you should just have one. You’ve got to keep something for the competition, right? Putting another one in would probably be a little bit of fun, both for cost and competition.”The Trump 2020 car has been driven by Corey LaJoie this summer. The relationship with Go Fas Racing and the car’s sponsor, Patriots of America, is for nine races this season.Trump called for the boycott on Wednesday after reports accused Goodyear of banning hats with Trump’s campaign slogan from being worn by employees. Goodyear responded saying images purporting to be from Goodyear did not come from Goodyear’s corporate office. But the company did acknowledge, however, that employees are discouraged from supporting political campaigns while working.“The visual in question was not created or distributed by Goodyear corporate, nor was it part of a diversity training class,” Goodyear said in a statement. “To be clear on our longstanding corporate policy, Goodyear has zero tolerance for any forms of harassment or discrimination. To enable a work environment free of those, we ask that associates refrain from workplace expressions in support of political campaigning for any candidate or political party, as well as similar forms of advocacy that fall outside the scope of racial justice and equity issues.” 1848

DENVER — Colorado lawmakers have tabled legislation that would require schools to notify parents of the arrests of teachers and school employees for certain crimes, prompted by a series of reports by Scripps station KMGH in Denver.House Bill 18-1269, which has sponsors from both parties in both chambers of the legislature, faced its first hearing in front of the House Judiciary Committee Thursday. The committee recommended a number of changes to the bill and tabled it without a vote. The bill requires school districts, charter schools, and local education providers to notify parents in writing within two days being informed of the arrest of an employee whose job involves contact with students. The requirement is limited to arrests for offenses that could require the denial, suspension or revocation of a teacher’s license – offenses that include sexual assault, unlawful sexual behavior and felony child abuse, among others. The requirements would also apply to former employees who resigned or were terminated within one year of the charge being filed. The bill also requires schools to send follow-up notification if the employee is acquitted or if the charges are dismissed. The bill's sponsors asked KMGH reporters to share findings exposing previously hidden arrests at Thursday’s hearing. KMGHs Parents in the Dark reports uncovered numerous arrests of teachers and school employees charged with sexual crimes against students that parents were not notified about, in some cases for months. The bill's sponsors said they plan to make changes to its language to address the concerns raised by judiciary committee and hope to bring it back for another hearing in the coming weeks.   1737

DENVER -- A federal judge has temporarily stopped the U.S. Postal Service from sending pre-election fliers with information about mail-in voting, after Colorado's Secretary of State filed a lawsuit claiming the fliers contain "misleading" and "incorrect" information for her state's voters. The USPS is appealing the decision Monday morning. “The mailer incorrectly asks that voters request a mail ballot 15 days before the election and return their ballots by mail at least seven days before the election. In Colorado, every registered voter is sent a ballot without having to make a request and voters are urged to return ballots by mail sooner than seven days before the election,” Secretary of State Jena Griswold wrote in a statement released Saturday. The lawsuit was filed late last week, and Saturday evening Griswold tweeted that a judge had granted Colorado a temporary restraining order, preventing the postal service from sending out the mailer to Colorado voters. The restraining order will stay in place until September 22 unless changed by the court. James Boxrud, a USPS spokesperson, said in a statement that the postcard is part of a non-partisan campaign that the agency launched to educate the public on the upcoming election.“The non-partisan campaign neither encourages nor discourages mail-in voting; rather, it is designed to reach and inform all voters about the importance of planning ahead if they plan to vote by mail,” Boxrud said in a statement. 1481
