Hurricane Harvey was a big headline in 2017. A year later, many continue to recover from the storm. They’re also remembering the government’s response, as they head to the polls to cast their ballots in the upcoming midterm election.“Yes, for the last three and a half years, walking into this house has been very depressing, I would say,” says Houston homeowner Greg Roberts.It hasn’t been easy for the Roberts, who live in Houston’s Meyerland neighborhood."We got flooded out in 2015, 2016, and 2017 with Harvey, as well," Roberts says.The Roberts haven’t lived in this home since it was first flooded in 2015. Harvey brought in more flood damage.Now, the couple is raising their home's foundation higher than the levels Harvey's waters reached. "If you look up and down the streets of this neighborhood and many others, you will find many others that have been lifted or completely demolished," Roberts says.Many residents in the area are preparing for the next storm. But the past isn't lost in this election cycle.  "The topic of flooding and recovery from flooding has not left the public conscious for at least the last three years, probably before, especially the past three and a half years,” Roberts says.Roberts says it’s a major talking point for politicians in Texas.After so much flooding, the Roberts say they've already answered another tough question about their future. Why do they stay?“That's a good question,” Roberts says. “It's a person by person decision; there's no question about that. IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. — A suspected drunk driver nearly hit several beach-goers Sunday before his SUV ended up in the ocean.The driver, identified as 50-year-old Jorge Mosti, was driving in the 1600 block of Seacoast Dr. just after 6:30 p.m. local time when witnesses say his SUV left the roadway and went onto the beach, according to San Diego Sheriff's Department.As he continued onto the beach, SDSO said Mosti nearly hit several people as he drove about a mile down the beach. His vehicle came eventually came to a stop when it partially submerged in the ocean.Mosti reportedly then jumped out of the vehicle and started walking toward Tijuana, Mexico. He made it about half a mile before deputies caught up to him. Deputies said Mosti was holding an open beer can as they took him into custody.Imperial Beach Lifeguards also responded to help pull the SUV from the water.Witnesses at the beach identified Mosti in a curbside lineup, SDSO said. He was arrested on charges of reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol. 1078

Hurricane Maria made landfall Wednesday in southeast Puerto Rico, ripping trees out of the ground and entangling two-thirds of the island in hurricane-force winds.Maria made landfall near the city of Yabucoa with winds of 155 mph -- just 2 mph short of Category 5 status, the National Hurricane Center said.By 9 a.m., those winds had weakened to 145 mph. But Maria is still a Category 4 hurricane, capable of ripping roofs off houses. 442
