SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With the threat of yet another rollback for San Diego businesses, owners are concerned. San Diego County is on track to move into the most restrictive tier, meaning restaurants, personal care shops like nail salons, museums, zoos, places of worship, movie theaters, and gyms all have to operate completely outside. The county is expected to announce that rollback Tuesday, Sept. 22.Ricardo Zarate Jr is the Director of Operations for Leucadia Company, a group that manages three Encinitas restaurants, including Valentina and Moto Deli. He said they’ve been trying to adapt with the times, adding trees and decorations to their outdoor dining, but hearing the news that the community is moving in the wrong direction is hard.RELATED: What happens if San Diego County moves to California's most restrictive tier“You think ‘okay we’re doing our due diligence, we’re making steps, there’s progress,’ and then to find out there’s not going to be that progress and in fact there might even be some regress, it’s disheartening,” said Zarate.He said he anticipates more restaurants will likely permanently close if they have to shift to outdoor yet again. When asked about the roller coaster of opening and closing, he said his restaurants will make it, but knows it’s hard on others.“On one hand it would be nice to not be wondering when the next step back is going to come but on the other hand, I can see how some of our fellow restaurants do benefit, even if it’s briefly, from being able to open up their indoors,” he said.Jessica Huynh at Bella Paris Nails in Little Italy knows the benefits of being able to open indoors. Her nail salon does not have the space to open outside, so they stayed closed the whole pandemic. After almost six months of no business, they finally reopened when indoor services were allowed in September. Now, less than three weeks later, they’re faced with the possibility of only outdoor services again, which for them means another closure.“I don’t know if we can work outside, so maybe we close again,” said Huynh. 2070

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two University of San Diego graduates may eventually find themselves among the stars.USD Alumni Matthew Dominick and Jonny Kim will graduate as part of NASA's first class of astronaut candidates under the Artemis program Friday at the program's Johnson Space Center in Houston.Dominick, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from USD's school of engineering, is a U.S. Navy lieutenant commander born in Colorado. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two local hikers are back in San Diego and after making a bizarre discovery on a remote trail in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.On a beautiful day two weeks ago, Tyler Hofer and Brandon Follin were in their second day of a hike up Mt. Williamson, the state's second's highest peak."Very remote, very rugged," said Hofer.The 14,000-foot summit was just three hours away when they got a bit off track in a boulder-filled area near a lake."It's called the Williamson Bowl. It's a bowl at the foot of Mt. Williamson," said Hofer.Inside the rocky bowl, the two were stepping across boulders when something caught Hofer's eye."I look down and see what appears to be a different color rock. Instead of gray, it's white," said Hofer.Wedged under a small boulder was a human skull."We just start removing rocks about one to two feet in diameter," said Hofer.Under those rocks was a skeleton, mostly intact."The arms were crossed on its chest ... as if you were lying in a casket or coffin ... almost as if someone laid it there peacefully," said Hofer. Also buried in the rocks: the remnants of a leather belt and rubber shoes. "In shock and in awe of what we found and the context in which we found it," said Hofer.The two reached the summit to get cell service and reported their findings to Inyo County deputies. Investigators say there are no signs of foul play and no matches to any missing persons reports. Based on the state of decomposition, the coroner believes the skeleton is several decades old."I'm just honored to be part of uncovering this mystery, because that's what it is," said Hofer.Hofer, a local youth pastor, is hopeful the discovery will lead to answers."That gives me a lot of joy knowing someone is going to get closure. That is someone's loved one," said Hofer.Investigators say they're following up on tips that have poured in. They also plan to conduct DNA tests, before matching results against genealogy databases. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two men wearing masks and gloves robbed a City Heights jewelry store Friday.One of the men jumped a display counter and confronted an employee of the Eclipse Jewelry Store at 4213 University Ave. just east of Interstate 15, police said.One man took jewelry from display trays and put it in a bag while the second man pointed a gun at the employee.The owner told 10News the men got away with about ,000 worth of mostly gold chains. He also said he thought perhaps the men had been in the store before since they seemed to know exactly what they wanted. Both men ran off and were last seen getting into a silver colored late model Toyota or Honda heading east.No one was injured in the robbery.
