When you think of Pedialyte, you probably think of kids who drink it to feel better. But now, the company is targeting a different demographic: adults, who are fighting a hangover. This month, the company released its medical grade powder packs called Sparkling Rush. Could it be the cure your holiday hangover? “Well, I think if you're going to drink, obviously pay attention to your intake and make sure you're eating at the same time,” says Dr. Chris Fellenz with Kaiser Permanente. Dr. Fellenz says if you've missed that boat, drinks like Pedialyte could be a good option to fight your holiday hangover. “In terms of replenishing the lost electrolytes and replenishing the essential nutrients that you're losing, sometimes oral rehydration solutions can help,” he says. Pedialyte says its Sparkling Rush replenishes the body with twice the electrolytes and half the sugar of leading sports drinks. But Dr. Fellenz says anything that hydrates your body can help. “Use something that's pre-prepared,” the doctor recommends. “Use sports drinks; don't use energy drinks that have caffeine in them. They dehydrate you more. Try and keep up one to one in terms of replacing the fluids that you take in the fluids that you're trying to replace.” If you can't get your hands on Sparkling Rush, Dr. Fellenz says you probably have everything you need to make a DIY version in your fridge.“Mixing some juice with some water, that'll add the sugar in the salts that you need for rehydration, where you can make your own rehydration formula with a couple tablespoons of sugar and half a teaspoon of salt in a liter of water,” he says. 1640

A day after they were given hope that a new facility would treat their 14-year-old son, a Monroe County, Michigan, family says they're again scrambling to find a new hospital to take himBobby Reyes was declared brain dead after suffering an asthma attack in late September. Doctors at CS Mott Children's Hospital told the family it was time to say goodbye. However, they went to court to get more time to find a new facility to take him. On Wednesday the family said a doctor at Allegiant Health Care of Phoenix had agreed to accept him for treatment. However, the family's attorney now says the doctor did not have the approval of administrators of Allegiant and they have disagreed with his decision. Beause of this, the transfer will not be taking place and the family posted an emotional video to Facebook saying the plug would be pulled on Friday. 863
A Los Angeles County resident visited Disneyland last week while infectious with measles, health officials said late Tuesday, potentially exposing hundreds of other people to the highly contagious disease. The individual went to Starbucks at 3006 S. Spulveda Boulevard in West Los Angeles early on the morning on October 16 before going to Disneyland from 9.15 a.m. onwards, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health said in a statement."Anyone who may have been at these locations on these dates during these timeframes may be at risk of developing measles for up to 21 days after being exposed," the statement said.Measles can spread through coughing and sneezing and can live for up to two hours in the air where an infected person coughs or sneezes. As more details become available, the department said it would update information about exposure times and locations."For those who are not protected, measles is a highly contagious and potentially severe disease that initially causes fever, cough, red, watery eyes, and, finally, a rash," said Los Angeles County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis."Measles is spread by air and by direct contact even before you know have it. The MMR immunization is a very effective measure to protect yourself and to prevent the unintentional spread of this potentially serious infection to others."The department urged people concerned about exposure to monitor themselves for illness with fever and/or an unexplained rash from 7 days to 21 days after they may have come into contact with the virus. If symptoms develop, they should stay at home and call a health care provider immediately. It added that residents should contact and notify their health care provider as soon as possible about a potential exposure if they are pregnant, have an infant, a weakened immune system and/or are not vaccinated. In August, 1871
The year 2018 may have started like every year, but as we close out the year, we are reminded of some big events that took place. There were the moments that gave us hope, including North and South Korea coming together for the Winter Games. And in a meeting many believed would never happen, President Donald Trump met with North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un. Another big event the world had their eyes on: the royal wedding. American Meghan Markle married Prince Harry. The two are expecting their first child in 2019. 2018 had love, but it also had heartbreak. Gun violence claimed the lives of dozens of people across the country. At Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, a shooting claimed the lives of 17. Ten were killed at Santa Fe High School in Texas, and 11 people were killed at a Pittsburgh synagogue. These events are just a few that sparked the familiar debate of gun violence in America. Mother Nature also left her mark on 2018. Strong hurricanes hit the Florida Panhandle and the Carolinas. Wildfires caused deadly damage in California. Notable people died in 2018. We lost icons like Senator John McCain, First Lady Barbara Bush and President George H.W. Bush. As for politics, it was heated and loud. New Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh faced allegations of sexual assault, dating back to his high school days. The Democrats took the house in the Midterms, but the Senate stayed with the GOP. Some outrageous moments of the year: Roseanne made a short-lived comeback. Her racist tweets got her character killed off her own show. And we can’t forget about the Tide Pod challenge, that brought serious health concerns as teens ate detergent pods as a joke. We can’t forget those silly viral debates like the “Yanny” vs “Laurel” debate. But whatever you heard, and however your year went, tomorrow is a new year. Happy New Year! 1874
