LAWRENCE, Kan. - University of Kansas head football coach Les Miles has been diagnosed with COVID-19, the Jayhawks athletic department announced Thursday.Miles said he learned he had tested positive earlier in the day and was “beginning the isolation process at my home.”KU, which is 0-3 in 2020, has a bye this weekend and isn't scheduled to play again until Oct. 6 at West Virginia, and Miles “will continue to fulfill my head coach responsibilities remotely.”He will not, however, be present at Jayhawks practices unless and until he has recovered.“Although I will not physically be able to attend a practice, for the time being, I will be using the technology available for remote working to stay connected during staff meetings, meetings with players, etc.,” Miles said in a statement.Kansas Director of Athletics Jeff Long said Miles’ case was caught through the program’s surveillance testing protocols.“At this time, we believe he will be able to continue to perform his head coaching duties,” Long said in a statement. “Based on the other test results, no other coaches tested positive. The crash happened at Giant Bambino’s Pizza on the 9500 block of Winter Gardens Boulevard before 3 p.m. Witnesses say the man behind the when was an Uber driver who drove to the restaurant to pick up a pizza. A customer inside the store narrowly escaped injury. The woman told 10News she got up from her table just before the car crashed through the restaurant. LAKELAND, Fla. — A 90-year-old man dressed in full protective gear so he could say his final goodbyes to his wife of nearly 30 years.Sam Reck had been separated from his wife, JoAnn Reck, during the pandemic after the state placed a ban on visitors at nursing homes.He was reunited with his wife at a hospital in the Tampa area shortly before she died of COVID-19."Here's this 90-year-old man, he did risk his life to go see my mom, but that was his choice, that's his freedom to do that. The couple was known as "Romeo and Juliet."The two would schedule distant visits during the pandemic after the state stopped visitors from coming into nursing homes.Sam would sit outside his second-floor apartment balcony then JoAnn would talk to him from a garden below.Hooper says his mother contracted COVID-19 last week and developed a fever, cough and fatigue."COVID was hitting her so hard and so fast," he said.Hooper said doctors said they could put his mother on a ventilator, but it would be a very painful procedure and her quality of life could be worse than before.JoAnn was diagnosed with dementia about a year ago."Anyone who has dealt with it knows what I am talking about because they don't always remember you or know the situation they're in or they think something weird is happening and you try to tell them it's not," said Hooper."It was the hardest decision, we ever made. We talked about it for a long time, but we decided to go to palliative care."JoAnn raised three children, including a daughter who died before her. She leaves behind grandchildren and great-grandchildren."She was a very giving person. LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) — Parents in Lemon Grove School District pulled their students from class Tuesday to protest against decisions being made, they say, without parent input. In March, 10News covered an emotional Lemon Grove school board meeting when parents fought to retain 16 teachers who had been designated for non-re-election. Those teachers chose to resign rather than have the designation placed on their permanent teaching records. The next regularly scheduled board meeting is Tuesday night, and parents plan to show up again to voice their complaints about the district, ranging from curriculum decisions, resource scarcity and student safety. One parent told 10News behavior issues are increasing in classrooms and the administration is failing to hold students accountable. A decline in classroom resources led her to pull one of her children from the district and enroll him in charter school. Several other parents at the rally say they have done the same, or are considering doing so, due to a variety of complaints. "We are not getting the basic resources and they are making decisions that don't make sense," says Rosa Carney.
