BEIJING, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Thursday called for innovation and more breakthroughs in key technologies in the country's machinery industry so as to make it globally competitive.     Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks when attending an award ceremony for role models of the machinery industry.     Jia, also member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, urged efforts to strengthen the sector's innovative capacity and to make progress in key technologies to accelerate and optimize its structural upgrading. DAKAR, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao held talks with his Senegalese counterpart Abdoulaye Wade in Dakar on Friday to discuss promotion of friendly and cooperative ties between China and the West African nation.     Hu said the bilateral relations have made progress in various fields since the resumption of diplomatic ties in 2005, and facts have proved that the China-Senegal friendship is in the fundamental interests of both nations and will have a promising future.     To cement bilateral cooperation and seek more tangible benefits for the two peoples, Hu proposed both nations keep exchange of high-level visits and deepen political trust, and increase communications and cooperation between the two governments, legislatures, ruling parties and local authorities so as to lay a solid political foundation for bilateral ties.     On the economic front, Hu suggested establishing a bilateral economic and trade steering committee to plan and monitor trade cooperation.     China would like to facilitate Senegalese corporations' efforts to do business in and expand their exports to China, and the Chinese government will encourage Chinese businesses and the China-Africa Development Fund to cooperate with Senegalese businesses, Hu said. The first-ever visit by a Chinese president was warmly welcomed by local people, with the streets from the airport to downtown Dakar being lined up with Chinese and Senegalese flags and welcoming crowds.

BEIJING, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on Sunday held phone talks respectively with U.S secretary of state and foreign ministers of Russia, Japan and South Korea on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) launching activity.     China has noticed the DPRK's announcement of having launched an experimental communications satellite and taken note of the concerns expressed by the relevant parties on this issue, Yang told his counterparts of the U.S., Russia, Japan and South Korea Hillary Clinton, Sergei Lavrov, Hirofumi Nakasone, and Yu Myung Hwan.     China, as a close neighbor of the Korean Peninsular, has always been committed to safeguarding peace and stability on the Korean Peninsular and in the Northeast Asia region, Yang said.     The Chinese government lately has reiterated its stance on solving the issue through dialogue and consultation and opposing any actions that could complicate the situation and escalate tension, he added.     To push forward the six-party talks, build a nuclear-free Korean Peninsular and maintain peace and stability in Northeast Asia are in the interests of all parties concerned and also the common aspirations of the international community, said the Chinese minister.     He said the Chinese side urged all relevant parties to show restraint and avoid any moves that could further increase tension in the region.     China will address the current situation in a responsible and constructive manner, Yang said, noting that China is willing to communicate with all parties concerned to solve the issue properly.     China will join efforts with other parties to advance the six-party talks and safeguard peace and stability of the Korean Peninsular, he added.     Russian, Japanese, South Korean foreign ministers and the U.S. sectary of state also expressed their countries' willingness to continue exchanges of views and consultation with China on the issue.

NAYPYITAW, Myanmar, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Li Changchun, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said here Thursday afternoon that CPC and the Chinese government attached high importance to its ties with neighboring Myanmar.     Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, held talks with Tin Aung Myint Oo, first secretary of the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) and made above remarks.     Even though the national conditions of China and Myanmar are different and the international and regional situation also witnessed major changes, Li said, China and Myanmar have adhered to the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence, which was jointly initiated by China, Myanmar and India in the 1950s.     To further promote the bilateral ties, Li suggested both to maintain high-level exchanges for increasing mutual trust in the political area through the direct exchanges of the two leadership.
