HAWTHORNE (CNS) - Southern California-based SpaceX will look to achieve another milestone late Friday evening when it attempts to launch the first test flight of its sleek capsule designed to carry astronauts to the International Space Station.The Crew Dragon, a stepped-up version of SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft that is used to carry cargo to the Space Station, is scheduled for to launch at 11:49 p.m. California time Friday from Cape Canaveral in Florida, propelled by a Falcon 9 rocket. Keep up the good work Mariana."Mariana's parents have joined with the ACLU after her teacher allegedly reprimanded the Catonsville, Md. sixth grader. Mariana, a student in the Baltimore County School District, has a rule that stipulates that students and staff must "stand and face the flag and while standing give an approved salute and recite in unison the Pledge of Allegiance."The next line of the rule does stipulate, however, "Any student or staff member who wishes to be excused from the flag salute shall be excused."Jay Jimenez of the Maryland ACLU spoke on the policy at a recent district board meeting, urging the board to clarify the district's policy.  "I decided to kneel because there is a lot of things I really don't agree with in the country happening - racism, sexism and the person in the White House, particularly the wall - it's not ok," Mariana said in May. "I feel like it's important to stand up for what I believe in and I want to inspire other people to do it too."According to the ACLU, Mariana was in tears after leaving the classroom as her teacher pushed to have her make a presentation explaining her actions to the class. After Mariana's parents were called by a school guidance counselor, her parents claimed there was confusion on whether students were allowed to forego the Pledge of Allegiance. "The Supreme Court has been very clear that students do not lose their First Amendment rights when they enter the schoolhouse door," Jimenez said. "The ACLU urges Baltimore County and all Maryland schools to review and update their policies to honor respectful student activism in the future, like silently ‘taking a knee' during the Pledge of Allegiance."The school's principal told the Washington Post that he agreed that the district's policy needed to be clarified.  2219

High school students across the country could soon receive training on how to stop bleeding during an incident like a school shooting, and the federal government is offering a big grant to make this happen.This week, Clay High School in Oregon, Ohio became one of the few schools to add Stop the Bleed kits in 90 classrooms, thanks to the proposal of student Nick McNeal.McNeal brought the idea to his school’s student government program, and after much persistence, his school passed out the kits to all teachers earlier this week."Now it's a matter of, how can we keep our kids safe in addition to education," says school principal James Jurski.Now, the Department of Homeland Security wants to make sure even more teachers and students are prepared to do what they can to minimize casualties in the event of a school shooting. Officials are offering .8 million to anyone who can come up with a trauma-training program that could be utilized on a national scale.The program, called “School-Age Trauma Training (SATT),” seeks to “deliver free to the public, lifesaving trauma training to high school age students for mass casualty events.”Jurski says in 2018, it's just a necessity that schools prepare for these situations, but he admitted it is frustrating that it has come to this.“Every teacher in the building went into education to educate students,” explains Jurski. “And I don't think there’s a time, at least when I went to school, where safety was even mentioned in our training. Hours after a chaotic presidential debate, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden embarked on a train tour through northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania on Wednesday.Biden made seven stops in towns and cities throughout the region. Heather Locklear was taken to jail after deputies responded to her home Sunday night on a report of domestic violence, and she allegedly attacked a responding police officer.TMZ reports Locklear?became combative toward the officer at her home in Thousand Oaks, California. She was arrested on three counts of misdemeanor battery for the attack.Locklear, known for her roles in "Franklin and Bash," "Melrose Place" and several other TV shows and films, is 56 years old.In years past, she has been arrested on DUI charges. She's had struggles with drug abuse, TMZ says.It is not clear who was in her home when the domestic violence call was made to police.
