AN DIEGO (CNS) - A 25-year-old man staying at a hotel in the Core-Columbia area was robbed at gunpoint by two men, who forced their way into his room this morning.The man was staying at the Comfort Inn Hotel at 664 G St. when two men wearing black shirts forced their way into his room at 2:20 a.m, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.The victim was tied up and the suspects ransacked his room, then left, Heims said.A description of the suspects was not available. (CNS) - Part of Disney California Adventure will open without rides Thursday but plenty of shopping and dining.Billed as an extension of Downtown Disney, Buena Vista Street will be gussied up for the holidays, offering socially distanced outdoor dining at favorite restaurants including Carthay Circle Lounge where Chef Andrew Sutton, culinary director of Signature Restaurants, says Al Fresco Dining at Carthay Circle Lounge will be "like sitting in a European sidewalk cafe.""We literally borrowed tables from some of the other restaurants," he said in remarks reported by the Orange County Register. "Then we started to get more serious about it, bringing in planters, and gardening, and making it look much more refined. The finished product is beautiful."Parts of the park are opening for retail and dining as an extension of the Downtown Disney District. Reservations won't be accepted, but a mobile wait list system will be in place when the restaurant is at capacity.Diners can choose to provide their name and mobile number to receive a text message when it's time to return. Mobile ordering will be available at Smokejumpers Grill and Award Wieners.Buena Vista Street will be open daily 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. There's no admission charge to enter and guests can park in the Simba lot as they do for Downtown Disney. The same goes for the public works department, housing authority and Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, although the airport has suspended its Wi-fi services, just in case.But other departments have been forced to conduct businesses the old-fashioned way, by using pen and paper.For example, if you have an issue with trash pickup, traffic signals and potholes, you'll have to resolve it over the phone. Anael Sanchez is walking over the rubble of what used to be his home in Phoenix, Oregon."It was crazy," Sanchez said.He lost his home in the wind-driven Almeda fire which tore through four towns in the Rogue Valley of southern Oregon.“It was so thick, the smoke. You could hardly see far away," Sanchez described.Two of the towns, Phoenix and Talent, are home to a large Latinx immigrant population. Sanchez is originally from Mexico but has lived in the area for more than two decades. Since he lost his home, he says many local grocery stores, organizations and the Red Cross have helped him with basic needs.“Clothes, gift cards, a little bit of cash,” Sanchez said.One organization helping is Unete, a nonprofit organization that supports farmworkers and immigrants in southern Oregon and across the nation.“The extra challenge that the immigrant and the farmworker has is the income,” said Dago Berto Morales, director at Unete.According to Morales, the immigrant community in the area was already facing large disparities and an affordable housing crisis. The fire made it worse.“We’re asking the government or local communities to try to find a solution for the housing crisis,” Morales said.With wildfires raging throughout the western U.S., the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is providing rental assistance, home repair, low-cost loans and other programs for eligible residents.
