SAN ONOFRE (CNS) - A man drove a stolen van onto the grounds of the now- idled San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station and claimed to have explosives in the vehicle, drawing a response from the San Diego County sheriff's bomb squad, which determined that there was no danger, authorities said Wednesday.The driver, 27-year-old Erik Jon Norman, was arrested on suspicion of felony vehicle theft, San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Pamela Wotkyns said.Sheriff's deputies went to the nuclear station a little after 4:20 p.m. Tuesday after security officers reported that Norman drove a white delivery van past the entrance gate and into a restricted parking lot, Wotkyns said. The security guards quickly detained Norman, but he told them the van contained electronic equipment and "possible explosives."The sheriff's department's bomb/arson unit was called to the scene but determined the van contained no explosives, only standard shipping parcels, Wotkyns said. SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man deputies say was under the influence was arrested Saturday evening after crashing into a patrol car and causing a second crash while fleeing law enforcement. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, deputies tried to make contact with an intoxicated man in the parking lot on the 400 block of Autumn Drive in San Marcos around 4:49 p.m.The driver, Cristian Reinoso, 24, failed to obey instructions, instead backing into an unoccupied patrol vehicle twice, deputies say. According to the department, Reinoso then drove away from the parking lot, striking a fence and a parked car before running a red light and crashing into another vehicle at the intersection of Los Vallecitos Boulevard and Knoll Road. The crash reportedly caused Reinoso’s vehicle to roll over, so deputies say he got out and ran away before being arrested at an apartment complex on the 200 block of Knoll Road. Both Reinoso and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to the hospital for minor injuries. The department says Reinoso will be charged with assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon and hit-and-run causing injuries. 1167

(KGTV) — CAL FIRE San Diego firefighters quickly knocked down a brush fire in San Marcos on Thursday, amid Santa Ana winds and dangerous fire weather conditions throughout the county.The 3-acre fire, dubbed the Sycamore Fire, ignited near Sycamore Dr. and Cox Rd. just before 12:30 p.m., according to CAL FIRE. Fire crews reported the fire began in heavy fuel and had a moderate rate of spread, but were able to halt its spread within about 30 minutes.Firefighters will remain on the scene for several hours to mop-up and further contain the fire.Thursday, dry Santa Ana winds created high fire danger throughout the county. A Red Flag Warning was in effect Thursday through 10 p.m. on Saturday for the county's valleys, foothills, and mountains. The combination of near-record low fuel moisture, strong winds, and low humidity dropping between 6 and 12% will create critical fire conditions.A High Wind Warning will be in effect for the same areas until 6 p.m. on Thursday. Northeasterly wind gusts of 30 to 60 mph are expected with isolated higher gusts in the wind-prone areas.
