Target joins Dollar General and several smaller stores that will briefly open for seniors only. Target also said that it is reducing hours as demand for supplies are causing products to be out of stock amid a shopping frenzy amid the spread of coronavirus. Starting on Wednesday, Target will open all of its locations for the first hour each Wednesday for "vulnerable guests." Target said those who are elderly and with underlying health concerns are invited to shop during the first hour of store open on Wednesday. The retailer said it is encouraging other guests to plan their shopping trips around this timeframe.Target will also close daily at 9 p.m. until further notice.“Families are counting on Target for critical supplies during this challenging time, and we’ll continue to do all that we can to keep our stores open. For weeks, we’ve been responding to the impact of the coronavirus by taking care of our team, rigorously cleaning our stores and helping our guests find the food, medicine and other essentials they need for themselves and their families,” said Brian Cornell, Chairman and CEO of Target. “As our team continues to adapt to the country’s fast-changing needs, we’re announcing plans to reduce our store hours and offer dedicated shopping hours for vulnerable guests. We’ll also maintain limits on select products and would ask guests to purchase only what they need so there’s enough supply to accommodate this increased demand.”Target also made the following announcements on Tuesday:Adding payroll hours to support more rigorous cleaning routines, including ensuring guest-facing surfaces like checklanes and touchscreens are cleaned at least every 30 minutes. Leveraging its supply chain to prioritize and fast-track the flow of products that are in highest demand across key categories, including cleaning products, paper products, food, over-the-counter medicine and baby products.Making back-up care available for all U.S. team members by waiving eligibility requirements, copays and other program details to ensure team members with caregiving needs can take care of their families during this time.Waiving the company’s absenteeism policy and covering up to 14 days of quarantine and illness pay for team members with a confirmed case of COVID-19, as well as continuing to offer standing benefits like Paid Family Leave and free counseling services.Closing all Target Cafés, Pizza Huts, Snack Bars, Beverage Bars, Starbucks seating areas and condiment stations in stores. 2516

The House of Representatives on Thursday approved a resolution to formalize the procedures of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, marking a significant step in the ongoing inquiry and setting the stage for the next phase in the investigation. The vote was 232-196 and was the first time that the full House chamber took a vote related to the inquiry. The resolution provides the procedural details for how the House will move its impeachment inquiry into its next phase as it investigates a whistleblower complaint alleging that the President attempted to pressure Ukraine to interfere in the 2020 presidential election by investigating the family of his potential political rival, former Vice President Joe Biden. The speaker usually does not preside, but for this historic vote -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is doing so Thursday morning. Before the vote, Pelosi said she had the votes to pass the resolution but called it a "sad day" because "nobody comes to Congress to impeach a president.""Today we move further down the path in our inquiry by putting forth our procedures, which are very transparent and open and frankly more transparent and more open giving more privileges to the President," Pelosi said.Pelosi added: "It isn't about partisanship, it's about patriotism."The House Intelligence, Foreign Affairs and Oversight Committees have been 1379

The bulk of Barry’s wrath hasn’t even made it onto land yet but the storm has already left tens of thousands without power, knocked down trees and flooded some low-lying coastal areas."Rainfall remains the primary hazard, we are still looking at 10 to 15 inches of rain, with the possibility of isolated higher amounts," Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards said.In Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, about 25 miles south of New Orleans, a small levee was breached and led to acres and acres of flooded farm field. But it's not the fields that's the concern. There's a highway that runs nearby. And if this floodwater overflows the highway, it could strand anyone who didn’t evacuate."So the people of southern Plaquemines need to know, they will be stuck down there," said Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser.Nungesser, the former parish president, said the breach has already created problems for farmers."We just rescued cattle out of this pasture, " Nungesser said. "Got them out before they drowned. And those cattlemen are now rescuing other cattle north and south of here."With rainfall forecasts having improving slightly, the lieutenant governor worries less about the Mississippi River topping levees. But given the large amounts of rain, no one should let their guard down— even after the storm."We saw it after Katrina, the storm was well past and then the levees, the flooding came after," Nungesser said. "The skies were sunshining when New Orleans was flooding from Katrina."In New Orleans, local officials are urging a similar message."And although you may not have seen rainfall as we’ve been discussing, it is coming our way," New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell said. "So please continue to listen and act accordingly." 1738

The acting head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Mark Morgan, provided some details Wednesday on plans to execute an operation targeting families who have gone through their legal proceedings."If you're here illegally, then you should be removed," Morgan told reporters during a call. "And in this case, that includes families."President Donald Trump tweeted Monday night that ICE was preparing to deport "millions" of undocumented immigrants next week, but he fell short of offering details. The vague announcement was striking, given the figure and the decision to disclose an operation prior to its execution.Morgan on Wednesday refrained from providing a time frame or details on the scope of the operation. The intent, Morgan said, is to deter migrants from coming to the US-Mexico border, and the operation is expected to include families who are on an expedited court docket. It remains unclear if the President was referring to this operation in his tweet.Last year, the Executive Office for Immigration Review, which oversees the nation's immigration courts, announced that it had begun tracking family cases filed by the Department of Homeland Security in 10 immigration court locations: Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York and San Francisco. The cases are being expedited to try to process the families in under a year.Morgan said ICE had worked closely with the Department of Justice on the family expedited docket and that the "results were very disappointing." He claimed that some families haven't attended their immigration hearings, saying, "They're going through a thorough due process as part of the immigration process, they're just refusing to show up."Additionally, in February, ICE sent around 2,000 letters to families who already had received final orders of removal by judges in absentia, asking them to self-report to local ICE offices by March to comply with the orders, Morgan said.Morgan, who took over the director role in an acting capacity weeks ago, stressed that there hasn't been a shift in direction for the agency but rather a continuation of its policy not to exclude any demographic for arrest and deportation.CNN 2224
