¡¡¡¡It may be the undercard match in 2020, but the battle for control of the U.S. Senate will not be cheap. Democrats are beginning to post fundraising totals for Q2 and numbers show that despite the pandemic, donating to Democratic politicians isn't appearing to take a hit. For example, in Montana, Former Democratic Gov. Steve Bullock announced he has raised .7 million to defeat Republican Sen. Steve Daines, who is also expected to raise millions. Montana is shaping up to be a crucial state for Democrats. Currently, Republicans control 53 seats in the United States Senate. It is looking more likely a Republican will win the Senate race in Alabama which means Republicans will have 54 seats. But they must also defend seats in states like Montana, Colorado, Arizona, North Carolina, Georgia and Maine. Democrats believe it is possible to win five of those races, giving Democrats control. Democrats would also gain control the Senate if they win four of those races and Joe Biden wins the presidency, since the vice oresident casts tie-breaking votes. MONEY TALKS The biggest sign yet that Democrats are focused heavily on the Senate is the race in South Carolina. Trump ally Sen. Lindsey Graham is up for reelection and his race is generally not seen as a competitive, yet Jaime Harrison, Graham's Democratic challenger, announced he has raised over million. While much focus is being placed on Democrats, Republicans are expected to match Democratic numbers when it is all said and done. Many Republican Senators have worked for years to maintain a "campaign warchest" predicting strong numbers from the Democratic Party. For instance in Colorado, Republican Sen. Cory Gardner is estimated to have over million dollars worth of "cash on hand" available to defend his seat. 1799
¡¡¡¡INDIANAPOLIS ¡ª A member of Congress has introduced a bill taking aim at protesters. The "Support Peaceful Protest Act," introduced by Indiana Rep. Jim Banks, would ban protesters convicted on crimes such as violence, looting, or vandalism from federal unemployment assistance. It was introduced on August 28, following several nights of demonstrations in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Protesters would also be held financially liable for the cost of federal policing. In a press release, Banks said:"Antifa thugs are descending on suffering communities, disrupting peaceful protests and leaving violence, looting and vandalism in their wake. They turned Milwaukee, Seattle and Portland into warzones, and now they're moving the chaos to Kenosha, Wisconsin. Who knows which community is next?"The bill is not expected to move in Congress. While the 0 federal boost to unemployment ended in July, some states, including Indiana, have opted in to an extra 0 in federal assistance. ¡¡¡¡INDIANAPOLIS ¡ª In a constant battle to keep your private data secure, Apple is hitting back, keeping people out of your phone. But it¡¯s bringing up a major issue for law enforcement in Indiana. When it comes to solving crimes, often a key piece of evidence is stored on a cellphone or a computer, and police are constantly trying to stay ahead of criminals. But as more people and tech giants are concerned about security, some of those new security features and encryption are stopping police from solving crimes. In 2015, Apple was in the spotlight after they refused to unlock an iPhone for the FBI after a terrorist attack in San Bernardino, California. At the time, investigators said potential key clues of other possible terrorist attacks could be on the phone. Apple refused to help unlock the device. In the years since, a new device called GrayKey that law enforcement could use to crack iPhones was developed, and they've been using it ever since. "[GrayKey] can plug into iPhones that historically, in general, have what we call 'brute force' on them,¡± said Steve Beaty, a digital security expert. The September release of Apple's latest operating system, iOS 12, shut down the ability for that special device to work. The result left investigators scrambling. ¡°Apple's fighting these guys pretty hard, has been a bit of a chess game," Beaty said. The Indiana State Police and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department have the ,000 GrayKey device. Both agencies say they only use the device as part of ongoing criminal investigations after a search warrant has been issued by a judge. But even with a warrant, Apple¡¯s latest operating system for iPhones has shut down the ability for the GrayKey to work. Investigators are concerned that they won't be able to solve some crimes because they can't get key pieces of evidence off a new iPhone. "So for the time being, I don't see it being more than a chess game where there are going to be advances made on either side,¡± Beaty said. ¡°And I don't think there's going to be a definitive ... ¡®checkmate¡¯ in the foreseeable future."WRTV asked both ISP and IMPD if they have had any cases where the device hasn¡¯t worked. Neither would discuss specifics of the GrayKey device. 2303
¡¡¡¡INDIANAPOLIS -- If you believe the latest conspiracy theory you should probably take the next couple of days to finish your bucket list because the end of the world is coming this weekend. That said, we wouldn't suggest skipping work just yet.The latest theory suggests that on Saturday, September 23, ¡°Planet X¡± will crash into Earth causing the apocalypse. The man behind that theory, David Meade, even authored a book called ¡°Planet X ¨C The 2017 Arrival.¡± His original theory suggested that the world would end a few days earlier, but it was adjusted based on the date of the most recent solar eclipse.Meade says his claims are rooted in Christianity ¨C and that the date coincides with biblical history, falling 33 days after the total solar eclipse. "Jesus lived for 33 years. The name Elohim, which is the name of God to the Jews, was mentioned 33 times (in the Bible)," he told the Washington Post. "It's a very biblically significant, numerologically significant number."Meade¡¯s attempt to predict the end of the world is not the first one to go viral, and not even the first to claim the fictional planet, Niburu, would cause the end to come.NASA debunked claims of Nibiru¡¯s existence years ago and dedicated an entire page to the December 21, 2012, apocalypse predictions, even creating a question and answer and a video titled ¡°Beyond 2012: Why the World Didn¡¯t End.¡±They have since updated that page in reference to the most recent ¡°prediction.¡±¡°The planet in question, Nibiru, doesn¡¯t exist,¡± said NASA. ¡°There will be no collision.¡±The story of Nibiru has been around for years and has been recycled into numerous apocalyptic fables over time, this is just the latest one to surface - according to NASA ¨C and it likely won¡¯t be the last. 1772
¡¡¡¡In post-Brexit Britain, trips to the European Union will get a little more expensive for millions of Brits in search of a continental break. The European Commission confirmed on Friday that UK travelers will be required fill out an online form and cough up €7 (.90) for visa-free travel, which will be valid for three years.Natasha Bertaud, a spokeswoman for the commission's President Jean-Claude Juncker, likened the "simple form" to the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) scheme used by the United States -- which requires travelers to pay to apply for permission to enter the country. She also pointed out that the EU's version, called ETIAS, will be "way cheaper."But this all comes with a major caveat. If the UK crashes out of the EU with no agreement in place, Brits will be required to get a visa to travel to the EU, a commission spokeswoman told Reuters on Friday.ETIAS, which is expected to come into force in 2021, will apply to countries outside the EU whose citizens can currently travel in Europe visa free. There are currently 61 such countries, including the United States, Israel and Singapore. It will cover the so-called Schengen group of 26 European countries that share largely open land borders. The electronic visa waiver system was conceived to "identify any security or irregular migratory risks posed by visa-exempt visitors traveling to the Schengen area while at the same time facilitate crossing frontiers for the vast majority of travelers who do not pose such risks,"?according to the commission. 1554
