BEIJING, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- China's meteorological authority announced on Monday that it has received 7.5 million yuan from the country's Ministry of Finance to strengthen its efforts in fighting persistent drought in some regions.The fund would be used to support efforts by meteorological departments in Shanxi, Hebei, Anhui, Shandong, and Henan provinces, all major crop-producing regions, to conduct activities for seeding clouds and making artificial rain, according to a statement posted on the National Meteorological Administration website.Government data shows that a prolonged drought since last October had affected 108.24 million mu (7.22 million hectares) of wheat crops in those provinces, as well as Jiangsu, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces, as of Sunday.The statement added that some of the affected regions experienced two rounds of snowfall last week, which were helpful in alleviating the drought. However, the major wheat-growing provinces of Shandong and Henan recorded no rainfall.The country's meteorological authority also predicted no significant rainfall or heavy snowfall for the dry regions over the next three days. It allows users to upload 20,000 songs into the cloud, compared with Amazon Cloud Drive's 2,000 songs and 5 GB limit for free accounts.Any web-connected devices with a browser or supporting Flash can stream music from the digital locker, but the service is only for Android-powered devices.Music Beta also gets Instant Mix, a similar intelligent feature to Apple's Genius playlist creator, which creates new playlists based on a single song by analyzing its characteristics.Before unveiling the service, Google told U.S. media Monday night that the current Music Beta is not the service Google had wanted to offer and it will continue to seek licenses with major music labels.

BEIJING, March 28 (Xinhuanet) -- Google Inc. is working with MasterCard Inc. and Citigroup Inc to develop a technology that could make mobile payments, according to media reports Monday.The new technology named "Nexus S Android" is embedded in Android mobile devices and allows customers to make purchases by waving their smartphones in front of a small reader at the checkout counter.Credit-card reader producer VeriFone Systems Inc, also involved in the new payment service, is developing contact-less devices that could allow people to pay with a wave or tap of credit card or a tap of smartphone.To use the service, holders of Citigroup-issued debit and credit cards must activate a mobile-payment application developed for one current model of Android phones.
