President Donald Trump is considering firing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, multiple people familiar with the discussions tell CNN, a move that has gained urgency following the raid of the office of the President's personal lawyer.Such an action could potentially further Trump's goal of trying to put greater limits on special counsel Robert Mueller. This is one of several options -- including going so far as to fire Attorney General Jeff Sessions?-- Trump is weighing in the aftermath of the FBI's decision Monday to raid the office of Michael Cohen, the President's personal lawyer and longtime confidant. Officials say if Trump acts, Rosenstein is his most likely target, but it's unclear whether even such a dramatic firing like this would be enough to satisfy the President.Trump has long been angry at top Justice Department officials, who he feels have not done enough to protect him from Mueller's ongoing probe. But two sources said the raid could mark a tipping point that would prompt the President to take more aggressive action against the special counsel.Firing Mueller could throw Trump's presidency into crisis and not all of Trump's legal advisers are on board. One source said Rosenstein wouldn't be fired. But some of Trump's legal advisers are telling him they now have a stronger case against Rosenstein. They believe Rosenstein crossed the line in what he can and cannot pursue. And they consider him conflicted since he is a potential witness in the special counsel's investigation because he wrote the memo that justified firing former FBI Director James Comey. The legal advisers also believe they have successfully argued to the American public that the FBI is tainted and think they can make the same case against Rosenstein.A senior administration official said the White House has been discussing potential options with key congressional Republican leaders, fearful of "blindsiding them." A person familiar with the conversations says a top congressional Republican advised the White House not to fire Rosenstein. 2085

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump, aiming to honor the victims of Wednesday's school shooting in Parkland, Florida, visited Broward Health North Hospital on Friday, the hospital where many of the victims were treated.Trump told reporters at the hospital that he spoke to victims of the shooting, adding that it is "very sad something like that could happen."The President, during the brief exchange, also heralded the efforts of hospital staff and first responders to save lives. Our entire Nation, w/one heavy heart, continues to pray for the victims & their families in Parkland, FL. To teachers, law enforcement, first responders & medical professionals who responded so bravely in the face of danger: We THANK YOU for your courage! https://t.co/3yJsrebZMG pic.twitter.com/ti791dENTy— Donald J. President Donald Trump on Sunday warned of a "big price" after reports of a chemical weapons attack in Syria almost a year to the day since the US struck a Syrian air field."Many dead, including women and children, in mindless CHEMICAL attack in Syria," Trump tweeted. "Area of atrocity is in lockdown and encircled by Syrian Army, making it completely inaccessible to outside world. President Putin, Russia and Iran are responsible for backing Animal Assad. Big price..."He continued, "....to pay. Open area immediately for medical help and verification. Another humanitarian disaster for no reason whatsoever. SICK!"Syrian activist groups on Saturday said toxic gas inside barrel bombs dropped from helicopters over a rebel-held city in Syria killed dozens of civilians and wounded scores more. Syrian state news said an "official source" denied the allegations. 872

President Donald Trump has warned that countries doing business with Iran will "NOT be doing business with the United States" as his administration reimposed sanctions on Iran Tuesday. In an early morning tweet, Trump described the measures as "the most biting sanctions ever" and warned they would "ratchet up to yet another level" in November, when US sanctions on Iranian oil will be reimposed."I am asking for WORLD PEACE, nothing less!" Trump added. 461

President Donald Trump formally accepted the Republican presidential nomination on Thursday as he prepares for the stretch run of his re-election bid.In a precedent-breaking speech that contrasted from past norms, Trump used the backdrop of the White House for his convention address. Trump spoke in front of a group of 1,500 supporters. The White House ceremony stood in contrast to typical conventions that are held in large arena before up to 20,000 supporters.Trump focused much of his speech on his opponent Joe Biden rather than his vision for a second term. Trump mentioned Biden by name 41 times, and made a number of indirect references to his Democratic challenger.Trump promises vaccineTrump joined Vice President Mike Pence’s pledge from last night in proclaiming that the US will have a coronavirus vaccine approved and ready by the end of 2020. His comments come despite skepticism from leading public health experts who say the shortened timeframe might not be enough to fully study the efficacy of vaccines."In recent months, our nation, and the entire planet, has been struck by a new and powerful invisible enemy. Like those brave Americans before us, we are meeting this challenge. We are delivering lifesaving therapies, and will produce a vaccine before the end of the year, or maybe even sooner," Trump said. While Trump said that the White House would continue heeding the advice of public health experts, the 1,500 spectators on hand were not socially distanced, and the majority of the crowd were not wearing face coverings.Trump condemns unrest in major citiesTrump joined a chorus of Republicans in condemning violence at protests in response to the shootings of police officers of black men, most recently Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. While Trump and other speakers repeatedly, and falsely claimed, that Biden has not spoken against the violence, the former vice president has directly encouraged protests to remain peaceful."In the strongest possible terms the Republican party condemns the rioting, looting, arson and violence we have seen in Democrat-run cities like Kenosha, Minneapolis, Portland, Chicago, and New York, and many others Democrat-run."While Trump has previously criticized local leaders for not using National Guard troops, there are currently guard units in Kenosha and Minneapolis.Ivanka goes lastDonald Trump’s daughter Ivanka was the last among Trump’s family members to speak at the Republican Convention.Unlike her brother Eric, Ivanka Trump avoided referring to Biden by name and kept her focus on why her father should be re-elected.“Washington has not changed Donald Trump. Donald Trump has changed Washington,” Ivanka Trump said. “America doesn’t need another empty vessel who will do whatever the media and the fringe of his party demands Now more than ever, America needs four more years of a warrior in the White House.:Protesters make noiseAs Trump spoke from the White House lawn, protesters made as much noise as possible outside of the White House. They used airhorns, instruments and drums to drown out the president. 3094
