SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The San Diego Unified School District on Thursday released new information on the next phases of its plan to reopen schools for in-person learning.The first phase of the district’s plan, which began Oct. 13, included appointment-based, in-person instruction for elementary school students identified as having “the greatest needs.”The district is looking to expand Phase 1 to include grade 6-12 students and children in infant/toddler and early-learning programs.In a news release issued Thursday morning, the district outlined details on Phases 2-4. Fridays would be set aside for “live” online check-ins and independent asynchronous learning.Secondary (6th to 12th grade) students would return to campus two days a week. Students would be split into two cohorts, with Cohort 1 attending on Mondays and Tuesdays and Cohort 2 attending on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Fridays would be dedicated to on-line learning for all students. Secondary students would follow a similar bell schedule with morning minutes dedicated to class period instruction and afternoon minutes would be dedicated to flex time for asynchronous learning or appointment-based services.Phase 3Elementary (Prek to 5th grade) students would attend classes on site four days a week Monday through Thursday. Fridays would be set aside for “live” online check-ins and independent asynchronous learning.Secondary (6th-12th grade) students would attend classes on site four days a week, Monday through Thursday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The White House confirmed Tuesday that it is reviewing the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.It comes as the Department of Homeland Security announced changes to the program that gives protection to some undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children, guarding them against deportation.In a news release, DHS announced the following changes to the DACA program:Reject all initial requests for DACA and associated applications for Employment Authorization Documents;Reject new and pending requests for advanced parole absent exceptional circumstances; and,Limit the period of renewed deferred action granted pursuant to the DACA policy after the issuance of this memorandum to one year.Last month, the Supreme Court blocked an attempt by the Trump Administration to end DACA altogether.DACA supporters are expected to go to court to stop the changes announced Tuesday. 925

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego Symphony has overcome the last major obstacle to a permanent home along San Diego's waterfront.The Port of San Diego's Board of Commissioners has granted a 15-year lease for the Symphony's Bayside Performance Park project. The project will see the construction of a seashell-shaped concert venue at Embarcadero Marina Park South, as well as various improvements to the surrounding park.The lease also includes four options allowing the Symphony to extend their lease up to 50 years.The San Diego Symphony will invest a minimum of million toward those improvements, including 66 new restrooms, expansion of the current promenade, and improvements to the park's existing basketball courts and exercise equipment.RELATED: Margaritaville Island Resort coming to San Diego“We’re confident concert-goers will love the improved access and state-of-the art stage and sound system, and bayfront visitors will love the new and improved park,” said Board Chairman Garry Bonelli.The Symphony could begin construction of the venue as soon as September. Since 2004, the Symphony has had to assemble and disassemble its temporary venue for its Bayside Summer Nights concert series. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Thursday, San Diego Sheriff's investigators asked the public for help locating a Fallbrook man who disappeared in 2018.Officials say 50-year-old Arnoldo Loaiza Franco was reported missing on Aug. 10, 2018, by his family in Fallbrook, But the last time Franco had communication with anyone was on Aug. 1.
