WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is refusing to publicly commit to accepting the results of the upcoming White House election. In saying that, he's recalling a similar threat he made weeks before the 2016 vote. The president tells “Fox News Sunday” that it's too early to make such an ironclad guarantee, and he scoffs at polls showing him lagging behind Democrat Joe Biden. The Biden campaign says the American people will decide the election and the government “is perfectly capable of escorting trespassers out of the White House.” Trump also is hammering the Pentagon brass for favoring renaming bases that honor Confederate military leaders. When schools moved to remote learning this year, The Associated Press reports Cardona hurried to deliver more than 100,000 laptops to students across The Constitution State.In his announcement, Biden said Cardona will lead the administration’s efforts to invest in all students, support educators, and make reopening schools safely a national priority. They hope to safely reopen the majority of classrooms within the first 100 days of Biden’s term.Biden says Cardona will strive to eliminate long-standing inequities and close racial and socioeconomic opportunity gaps — as well as expand access to community colleges, training and public four-year colleges and universities to improve student success and grow a stronger middle class.Cardona’s parents are from Puerto Rico. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican National Committee is sharply restricting attendance on three of the four nights of its convention in Jacksonville, Florida, next month as coronavirus cases are spiking in the state.RNC chair Ronna McDaniel says only the roughly 2,500 regular delegates to the convention will be permitted to attend the opening three nights.Delegates, their guests and alternate delegates will be permitted to attend the final night, Aug. 27, when President Donald Trump is set to deliver his acceptance speech.The Washington Post obtained a letter sent to delegates about scaling back the convention. In the letter, McDaniel reportedly says attendees will be offered coronavirus testing, temperature checks and PPE, and aggressive sanitizing protocols will be in effect.McDaniel says the party hoped to be able to plan a traditional convention, but adjustments have to be made to comply with state and local health guidelines.The GOP moved the convention from Charlotte, after officials in the North Carolina city ruled out a full-capacity crowd because of the pandemic. 1095
