MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin says that a coronavirus vaccine developed in his country has been cleared for use and one of his daughters has already been inoculated, even as international experts have questioned its safety. Speaking at a government meeting Tuesday, Putin said that the vaccine has proven efficient during tests, offering a lasting immunity from the coronavirus. Putin added that the vaccine underwent the necessary tests, saying that one of his two adult daughters has received two shots of the vaccine. NASHVILLE, Tennessee — Individuals convicted of a felony can't vote while incarcerated, on parole, or on probation in the State of Tennessee, and Terrancé Akins was one of those people — until this week.Akins will get to vote for the first time after serving 17 years in prison.When he was 17-years-old, Akins went to prison for especially aggravated robbery."I lost my family, I lost my freedom, and then I lost my right to vote," Akins said.He has started a non-profit called 'Blessed Incorporated' where he helps inner city kids stay out of trouble. It took four years, but now that he is on a steady path, he's excited to be able to vote for the first time. "It feels great. It feels wonderful," he said.In Tennessee, voting rights are restored when ex-felons complete their supervised release. Akins hopes his example will help encourage others to re-register to vote. "They give up on themselves, they give up on their lives, they figure that they can never really amount to anything, but that's not true. You have to believe in yourself and you have to believe that you matter and that your vote matter, and that's one thing that I did, I took the initiative to not just do this for me, but to do it for those that are coming behind me," said Akins.The voter registration deadline is on Tuesday, you can fill out a form online or sign up in person.Akins is now renting an apartment in Montgomery County. Early voting there starts Oct. 17 and runs through Nov. 1. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 6. 1575

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The National Museum of African American Music is finally set to open next year.The grand opening was delayed this summer due to several pandemic setbacks, but a new date has been set for January 18, which is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Museum President and CEO Henry Hicks says it's going to be a very special day as NMAAM has been in the works for 22 years. Hicks says museum leaders were excited to open in the summer of this year, but the pandemic made it tough. Construction material was delayed, and they had to implement social distancing requirements for crews working.There are still some finishing touches being made on the museum but overall it’s ready for Nashvillians and tourists alike. Hicks says the museum will be a place that connects all generations and all walks of life through music.“Nashville is Music City and that really got its start with the Fisk Jubilee Singers. It evolved through an era of R&B and jazz being very prominent in the city and of course country music and I think the city has a job of embracing that country or Music City heritage," said Hicks. "This museum just really builds upon that.”NMAAM members will be the first ones to get access, but the following weekend, it will open to the general public. NASHVILLE, Ind. — A faculty advisor for the yearbook at a high school in Indiana has been suspended without pay for two weeks for a photo caption that referred to a Black student as "Black Guy" instead of the student's name.Brown County Schools Superintendent Dr. Laur Hammack and high school principal Matthew Stark made the announcement in a letter to the district on Friday.The mistaken caption printed in Brown County High School's 2020 yearbook."Our investigation did not identify any students (currently enrolled or graduated) who were involved in the creation of the offensive content," the district's statement read. "We believe the content was created by the faculty advisor for the yearbook; he will no longer serve in that role. Additionally, this same faculty member is being suspended without pay for two weeks."The district did not identify the staff member nor say whether the advisor is also a teacher."Both the family of the student and the former faculty advisor involved have committed to a restorative conference where the harm that was caused is acknowledged, the individual causing the harm is held accountable, and an honest discussion about the harm caused by this inexcusable act is conducted," the district's statement read.The district said that the discussion will and needs to continue."We are having meaningful conversations with students, families, and members of the larger Brown County community to help ensure an incident of this type will never happen again," the district said. "We will continue to keep you informed of our efforts."The caption was in a photo of one of the high school's basketball teams."We remain deeply grateful for the ongoing engagement of the student and family involved in being a collaborative partner in rejecting discrimination of all types and against anyone," the district said in its statement. Multiple people were busy Monday morning in Fort Pierce rescuing baby sea turtles that were stuck in seaweed from the high surf and strong winds of Hurricane Irma.The rescue was occurring at 10 a.m. at Jetty Park. A man named Eric said he spoke with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, who told him to put wet sand in a bucket and collect the stranded turtles.    FWC originally said to put the turtles back into the water but later changed their mind.“Originally FWC told me to put them back into the water, but we noticed that they were just coming right back onto the shore because the waves are just too strong for these little creatures,” said Eric.He said when other people in the area saw what he was doing, they jumped in to help with the rescue.The group of people were frantically digging through a massive mound of seaweed with their bare hands to save as many turtles as possible.By 10 a.m., the group had rescued about 50 to 60 baby sea turtles and nine eggs that were not broken. Unfortunatly they found about 20 small turtles that did not survive Irma.FWC said they come by later to collect the turtles.  1181
