DETROIT — The former principal of Anchor Bay High School in Fair Haven, Michigan, is suing the district, saying he was forced out after giving a wooden penis to a departing employee as a joke. According to an attorney representing former principal Jack Stanton, a female security guard confiscated the wooden penis from a student who made it in workshop. On her last day, Stanton gave her back the wooden penis as a joke gift, and administration for the school district found out. “He’s told by the administration 'look we are going to make all this information public, we’re going to do a full investigation unless you resign in 24 hours,' ” said Stephen Lovell, who is representing Stanton. According to Lovell, Stanton claims he was told by administration the female security guard was offended. Now Stanton is suing for not getting that hearing, saying he was forced to resign under false pretenses that the female security guard was offended. “They did everything they could to keep him from getting that hearing. They didn’t want him to have that hearing because they knew, one: the school board sort of exonerated him for this because it is this private joke, two: they didn’t want the fact that they were lying about this stuff to come to light,” said Lovell. Attorney Timothy Mullins is representing the Anchor Bay School District. Mullins tells WXYZ the school did not push Stanton to from his job. “For a disciplinary action against an employee to be taken by the board he can request a closed session in front of the board, he knows that, that's a fact, and any statement to the contrary is a lie,” said Mullins. Mullins says even if the security guard was not offended it's still inappropriate conduct of a school principal. 1751

Chris Matthews, the longtime host of MSNBC's "Hardball," announced his retirement effectively immediately at the start of the program Monday evening. When he said "immediately," he meant it. Matthews gave a brief statement at the beginning of the program, and did not finish the show. MSNBC political director Steve Kornacki, who expressed his surprise by the decision, filled in for the rest of the program. Matthews joined MSNBC in 1999, after "Hardball" was aired on CNBC from 1997 to 1999. Matthews' retirement comes just days after a tweet by GQ's Laura Bassett saying that Matthews had acted inappropriately toward her. "In 2017, I wrote about a cable news host being gross and inappropriate with me. I was afraid to name him at the time," she 762

Deb Schubert needed some trees trimmed, so she invited a trimmer to her home for a quick estimate."He took a look at the property, the amount of trees we wanted to cut down," she said. "At this point were just searching for estimates."She thought nothing of it when the contractor asked her to sign the price quote. "He wrote out the estimate, asked me to sign it, we did, we got a copy of it, and he took off," she said. But when Schubert told him a few days later she was going with another company, she couldn't believe what the trimmer said."What we had signed was actually a binding contract. He said If we wanted to cancel it we were required to pay them a 20 percent cancellation fee."The contractor wanted several hundred dollars. How to protect yourselfThe good news is that most tree trimming companies are honest and are not going to play fast with words. But this is a warning why you need to be very careful anytime someone asks you to sign your name. Estimates should not require it.So don't let this happen to you. The website 1052

Cynda Murrow has been working at Walgreens for four years.“I get to meet new people, and I like to say hi to all of my co-workers,” Murrow said. She’s a person just like anyone else, but we all have something that’s a part of our story. Murrow's story includes living with an intellectual and developmental disability.“Some people don’t understand me, so that’s why I use a device to help me," Murrow said. "But some of the people speak Spanish, so that’s hard for me to speak Spanish because I don’t know Spanish. I know a little bit of Spanish though.”Cynda says she loves her job. Just like any job, some days can be challenging. However, she always finds a way to make it work.“(I have a) device that I use to help me speak if I have trouble," Murrow said. "I do have this button right here that says ’I’m using a communication device to help me speak. Please be patient with me.’”Advocates who offer support for people with disabilities say employment is an important part of life. That’s why national organizations like The Arc work to break down those barriers.“Employment is more than just getting a paycheck. Employment develops independent, self-esteem, self-protection, and limits vulnerability in mistreatment, abuse and neglect,” Luke Wheeland with The Arc said.In the past 30 years, there’s been a lot of effort to get people with disabilities into the workforce. It all comes down to seeking out the right resources. Murrow’s mom says she’s been educating herself on what’s good for Murrow since the day she was born.“I found that information is power, so I just learned as much as I could,” Murrow'’s mom Wayla Murrow said.Another resource Murrow’s family uses, is the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.“Vocational Rehabilitation is the largest provider of job placement services for people with disabilities in the country,” Eric Clark with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation said.Clark says Vocational Rehabilitation programs exist in all 50 states and serves about a million people per year. Those who have a documented disability are able to partner with a rehabilitation counselor to develop an individual plan to find employment.“In that process they’ll talk about what kind of employment are they interested in, what type of employment have they done before, what skills did they develop from that employment," Clark said. "But also, even talking about general life activities. Do they volunteer? Do they do sports?”Clark says a good reference to use when applying for jobs is the 2526
