Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders said Monday he was open to backing a major proposed reform to the makeup of the Supreme Court. The Vermont independent, following the lead of some progressive legal scholars, floated a plan that would effectively end lifetime, uninterrupted appointments for Supreme Court justices."What may make sense is, if not term limits, then rotating judges to the appeals court as well," Sanders said at the We the People Summit in Washington. "Letting them get out of the Supreme Court and bringing in new blood."Sanders stopped short of backing calls to add justices to the court, a strategy gaining steam with a new generation of left-wing activists, who are putting pressure on the Democratic candidates to address their concerns over the current conservative influence on the court with more ambitious plans."My worry is that the next time the Republicans are in power they will do the same thing," Sanders said of the court-packing option. "So I think that is not the ultimate solution."Progressive legal scholars and activist groups have paid increasing mind to the courts in the aftermath of 2016, when Senate Republicans blocked former President Barack Obama's Supreme Court pick, Merrick Garland, denying him even a public hearing ahead of the election. DETROIT — A Michigan mother claims her 15-year-old daughter was booted from a Spirit Airlines flight from Tampa to Detroit without notice. Now, she's taking action and suing the airline. The alleged incident happened in April 2018 when the family was returning from Ft. Lauderdale and had to switch planes in Tampa.Stacy Giordano had a seat with her son in the back of the plane, and her daughter was reportedly assigned to a seat in the front of the aircraft. That's when Giordano's attorney Jerry Thurswell claims Giordano's daughter was suddenly removed from the plane to make room for another passenger due to overbooking.“They didn’t want to hear anything. They just pulled her off the plane," Thurswell said.Thurswell said the teenager attempted to reach her mother by phone, but was unable to do so because of the airline's mandatory "airplane mode" policy on cell phones. Giordano's phone was not receiving messages. The girl was put on another flight back to Detroit hours later. Giordano didn't realize her daughter was gone until mid-flight.“You don’t just separate a child from their mother," Thurswell said.“The safety and security of our Guests is our top priority,” Spirit Airlines said in a statement.Thurswell said the airline refunded Giordano a ticket and offered her extra flight miles. The family is suing for more than ,000 in damages. 1369

Coca-Cola is feeling the impact of COVID-19, better known as coronavirus. The company says the disease has already disrupted its supply chain, and artificial sweeteners from China could be in shorter supply if the outbreak continues.Coca-Cola announced Monday as part of their annual report that they have initiated contingent supply plans for the near future, and don't foresee any short-term impact."We do not anticipate a shortage of Diet Coke or Coke Zero related to sucralose because those products do not contain sucralose," Coca-Cola said in a statement. "We have initiated contingency supply plans for ingredients sourced from China, and we do not expect any impact to our customers or consumers at this time."In their annual report, Coca-Cola indicated that it considered sucralose — the sugar substiute used in products such as Powerade Zero and Diet Coke with Splenda — a "critical raw material" sourced from suppliers in the US and China, according to CNN. 979
