Toys R Us joins Walmart, Target, and Best Buy in opening Thanksgiving afternoon in 2017. If you had been hoping they would follow the lead of Nordstrom and REI and hold off on a Thursday opening, you'll no doubt be disappointed. But if you don't mind skipping the pumpkin pie, early shoppers will find big savings on Lego, Barbie, and Disney toys, among other things. For gamers, Sony's PS4 Slim will be marked down to 9, matching the Black Friday price at other big retailers. The Xbox One Slim will sell for 9 (though you may find a better bundled deal at Walmart or Best Buy).Interestingly, Toys R Us is not saying much about Hatchimals on Black Friday. Last year's hardest-to-find toy is expected to again be red hot, with the new Hatchimal twins, but don't expect a Black Friday deal on them.We turned to our friends at BFAds.net for some of the best Toys R Us deals/Top Thanksgiving 5 p.m. doorbusters: 932
Though he has not completely recovered from the coronavirus, President Donald Trump left Walter Reed Medical Center Monday evening. The president's helicopter Marine One touched down shortly before 7 p.m. in front of the White House. The president walked up the stairs to the White House, took off his mask and stood alone for several moments before entering the White House. The president did not put his mask back on before entering the White House, despite aides and assistants clearly inside the White House. The moment potentially exposed additional workers in the White House complex who have worked in a dangerous environment in recent weeks as the virus has spread among a number of key staff members.President Trump has returned to the White House after spending three nights at Walter Reed Medical Center for coronavirus treatment. After exiting Marine One, Trump walked up a set of stairs, took off his mask and posed for photographs on a balcony. https://t.co/P3BAaWUCWL pic.twitter.com/Ibc3BHGlRX— CNN (@CNN) October 5, 2020 According to experts, the president would likely still be contagious for up to 10 days following the onset of coronavirus symptoms.Despite not having fully recovered from the coronavirus, Trump's health has improved enough for him to return to the White House, his doctors said on Monday."Though he may not be entirely out of the woods yet, the team and I agree that almost all of our evaluations, and most importantly, his clinical status, support the President's safe return home, where he'll be surrounded by world-class medical care 24/7," Dr. Sean Conley said in a press conference Monday.Conley's press conference came about an hour after Trump tweeted himself that he would be leaving the hospital at 6:30 p.m. ET."I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30 P.M. Feeling really good!" Trump tweeted. "Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life. We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge. I feel better than I did 20 years ago!" 2068
They have been in business since 1818, so you would think they would have weather prognostication down to a science. The folks at the Farmers' Almanac have issued their forecast for the upcoming winter, and for many, purchasing a snowblower might not be a bad investment. The Farmers Almanac predicts that the Central US, Midwest and Northeast will see a cold, brutal winter. For those who live in Montana, Wyoming and Colorado and to the east, the almanac calls for "teeth-chattering cold" and "plentiful snow." For those in the Midwest, expect "biting cold" and snow this winter. And those in the Northeast should expect a "cold and white" winter. The West Coast should see a more average winter, with greater than average rain in the Pacific Northwest. While it will remain cold in Texas, the Southeast should be closer to average, with above-average rainfall. If you are hoping for a more modest winter, you will like the forecast from the Old Farmers' Almanac. Old Farmers' Almanac is suggesting a mild winter for most of the United States, with the exception being in the Southwest. The Rockies, while still mild, should expect a snowy winter. How these publications come up with said forecasts are a bit of a mystery, much like KFC's secret recipe. "we derive our weather forecasts from a secret formula that was devised by the founder of this Almanac, Robert B. Thomas, in 1792. Thomas believed that weather on Earth was influenced by sunspots, which are magnetic storms on the surface of the Sun," the Old Farmers' Almanac says on its website. 1616
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) — The Trump administration plans to lift endangered species protections for gray wolves across most of the nation by the end of the year. “We’re working hard to have this done by the end of the year and I’d say it’s very imminent,” Aurelia Skipwith, the director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, told The Associated Press in a phone interview Monday.More than 6,000 wolves now roam portions of the western Great Lakes and northern Rocky Mountains. The Fish and Wildlife Service last year proposed dropping the wolf from the endangered list in the lower 48 states, exempting a small population of Mexican wolves in the Southwest. It was the latest of numerous attempts to return management authority to the states — moves that courts have repeatedly rejected after opponents filed lawsuits.Director Skipwith told The Associated Press in a phone interview that the administration also is pushing ahead with a rollback of protections for migratory birds despite a recent setback in federal court. 1033
There is a conversation happening in the deaf community post-election about how to shorten President-elect Joe Biden’s name to become part of the colloquial American Sign Language, according to reports.A top choice is a hand gesture that has one hand making a “c” shape around an eye. It’s apparently a reference to Biden’s use of aviator sunglasses. However, many have reportedly pushed back on social media, saying the gesture looks like a gang sign, according to the Los Angeles Times.“We BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of color) completely disagree with that [sign],” American Sign Language influencer and TikTok user Nakia Smith signed in a video on Monday. "[The sign] feels so unsafe for us.” 711
