Live Nation, the parent company of Ticket Master and the owner of dozens of concert venues across the country, said in a press release Wednesday that it was working with local governments in the hopes that its venues could be used as polling places in the upcoming election.So far, Live Nation says that four of its concert venues — The Wiltern and Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, Emo’s in Austin and the Buckhead Theatre in Atlanta — will be used as polling stations this November. A fifth venue, The Fillmore in Philadelphia, "is in the final stages of the vetting process."In addition, the company says it is working with local officials across the country to "determine the feasibility" of using 100-plus Live Nation venues as polling places. According to CBS News, about a dozen NBA arenas will host voters on election day, and several more will serve as early voting centers ahead of Nov. 3.However, several NBA teams have been told that they are not able to participate. Gavin Newsom announced a new process for reopening businesses that is slower and more gradual than what the state tried earlier this summer.The new rules create a four-tier, color-coded system that counties will move through based on their number of cases and percentage of positive tests.It will rely on two metrics to determine which tier a county is in: case rates and the percentage of positive tests.The state's website says:"Every county in California is assigned to a tier based on its rate of new cases and positivity. At a minimum, counties must remain in a tier for at least 3 weeks before moving forward. Data is reviewed weekly and tiers are updated on Tuesdays. To move forward, a county must meet the next tier’s criteria for two consecutive weeks. If a county’s metrics worsen for two consecutive weeks, it will be assigned a more restrictive tier. Public health officials are constantly monitoring data and can step in if necessary."Based on the state’s new tool, San Diego County is in the red Substantial tier, and while the system allows certain businesses to reopen, individual counties can issue more stringent restrictions that could keep those businesses closed or restricted to outdoor operations.As of Aug. 28, the tool shows San Diego County businesses such as nail salons, hair salons/barbershops, and gyms/fitness centers are able to reopen indoor operations -- with modifications under industry guidance -- by Aug. 31.Restaurants can reopen for indoor dine-in service with modifications and capacity limits, the state’s tool shows.Breweries and bars/pubs that do not serve food remain closed under the new guidelines.When it comes to schools in San Diego County, in-person learning is still prohibited. LOS ANGELES (KGTV) - A man who Los Angeles Police say repeatedly punched two women during a fight with a street vendor is charged with misdemeanor battery, the LA City Attorney’s office said Wednesday. Arka Sangbaran Oroojian, 30, was caught on camera attacking the women in downtown Los Angeles Jan. 26, City Attorney Mike Feuer said. Investigators said Oroojian began arguing with a hot dog vendor at 6th and Spring Streets when two women came to the vendor’s defense. The fought escalated when Oroojian punched one woman, police said. The second woman tripped Oroojian and he fell to the ground, eventually getting to his feet and hitting both women, according to officers. As they rose, police said Oroojian punched them again and ran away. The women suffered injuries including a concussion, broken finger, and bruises. Oroojian turned himself in to Los Angeles Police and is facing five counts of battery. LONG BEACH (CNS) - Three former Long Beach Police Department officers wrote violent threats against Black Lives Matter activist Shaun King on a private Facebook page for California law enforcement officers, police confirmed Thursday.King, in an article he penned on Medium, said a private Facebook group for California law enforcement officers had members using their real names and "openly plotting and planning (his) assassination."Screenshots included in the Medium article show current and former officers of various California agencies saying "Toss this guy from a helicopter," "Need a sniper," "Shaun King needs to be put down," "I recommend retro active birth control, or post birth abortion, whatever you wanna call it," and other threats apparently aimed at King.According to King, the threats began with retired Long Beach Police Officer Laura Tartgaglione, who allegedly wrote, "The man who put this tweet out today is a FOUNDING MEMBER OF BLM, he also introduced Bernie Sanders at his attempted presidential run. I think (California) needs to start putting a team together of retired military, police and NRA MEMBERS! We have no protection. These criminals that the Democrats created need to be stopped."Information regarding the threats were sent to the Long Beach Police Department's Investigations Bureau for an internal review and recommendations regarding a criminal investigation, the department said.
