WASHINGTON (AP) — Many of Hollywood's power elite, including prolific television hit maker Shonda Rhimes, were hosting a fundraiser Wednesday for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.The evening event is billed as a "reception in support of Kamala Harris for the People," and Harris is expected to attend, according to an invitation obtained by The Associated Press. The reception will be held at the Pacific Palisades home of director J.J. Abrams and his wife, Katie McGrath. Tickets cost ,800 per guest, with co-chairs donating ,000, according to the invitation.Co-chairs for the event include a number of prominent Hollywood names, including Rhimes, as well as Chris Silbermann of ICM Partners, Universal Pictures chair Donna Langley, producer Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and "Lost" co-creator Damon Lindelof.The fundraiser was first reported by Variety.The California senator has been courting donors in her home state of in the final weeks of the first fundraising quarter of the 2020 campaign. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Neighbors in the 700 block of Lemon Avenue in Vista say they were stunned as they watched a landlord pull out a pistol and start shooting at his tenant.Neighbors tell 10News there have been screaming matches at the home in the past. They say the landlord had been trying to evict a tenant who was living in the garage. The neighbors did not wish to share their names out of fear for their family's safety.The watch commander said they received a 9-1-1 call around 6 p.m. when the first shot was fired. Deputies arrived and investigated, then left when they couldn't find the landlord.Around 7:50 p.m. the landlord returned and, according to the watch commander, fired several shots at the tenant.Neighbors said it sounded like fireworks. They said they saw the landlord cocking his pistol, they believed it jammed.A video provided to 10News by neighbors shows deputies with rifles drawn approaching the home.They arrested the landlord and his associate.Details on the man, the associate, the tenant and the charges are not currently known. 1070

WASHINGTON (AP) — A top White House aide defends President Donald Trump's tweets about an influential black Democratic congressman and his Baltimore district as a justified response to the lawmaker's criticism of administration border policies.Acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney says Trump was upset over what he perceives to be inaccurate statements by Rep. Walgreens has finally figured out a way to buy Rite Aid -- or about half of it, at least.The pharmacy giant said Tuesday that federal regulators have accepted its .4 billion deal to buy 1,932 Rite Aid stores. That will leave Rite Aid with about 2,600 stores once the deal is finished.The purchase marks the end of a two-years-long fight for Walgreens, which initially tried to buy Rite Aid outright for billion in October 2015.The merger agreement faced intense scrutiny from the start, since it would have left the United States with just two major pharmacy chains: Walgreens and CVS.The agreement was reworked several times over the past few years as Walgreens scaled back the number of stores it intended to purchase. In June, the company tried for a .2 billion deal that would have handed it 2,186 Rite Aid stores.Walgreens recently revised its deal again, said company spokesman Michael Polzin. Polzin said that the waiting period for review by the Federal Trade Commission expired last night at midnight, effectively giving Walgreens the regulatory clearance it needs to move forward.The Rite Aid pharmacies that Walgreens plans to buy will eventually be rebranded as Walgreens stores. But it won't happen all at once.Polzin said the company will begin buying Rite Aids in October, adding that it expects to finish doing so in the spring of 2018.Rite Aid stock was down nearly 7% in premarket trading Tuesday morning -- a change from Monday, when it rose as investors hoped for a better deal.Walgreens stock, meanwhile, was up 2% Tuesday before open. 1572
