The gigantic rings were floated there this year on a barge to greet visitors, standing about 50 feet tall and 100 feet long. Organizers and the city of Tokyo say the Olympic symbol is being removed for maintenance and will return. The Tokyo Olympics were postponed for a year because of the coronavirus pandemic and rescheduled to open on July 23, 2021. TIJUANA, Mexico (AP) — A chaotic border clash with choking tear gas fired by U.S. agents left Central American migrants sullen and dejected, with some opting Monday to leave and others worrying the incident may have spoiled their chances at asylum.Mexican security forces stepped up their presence at a Tijuana sports complex where thousands from the migrant caravan have been sheltered, apparently seeking to avoid a repeat of Sunday's ugly scene. Police blocked the migrants from walking toward the border in the morning, though later on they allowed them to move about freely.Isauro Mejia, 46, from Cortes, Honduras, went looking for a cup of coffee to shake the morning chill following another night sleeping outside after being caught up in the clashes. Before, he had hoped to be able to press an asylum claim, but now he wasn't so sure."The way things went yesterday ... I think there is no chance," Mejia said. "With the difficulty that has presented itself because of yesterday's incidents ... that's further away."Migrants hoping to apply for asylum in the United States must put their names on a waiting list that already had some 3,000 people on it before the caravan arrived in Tijuana. There have been plenty of presidential elections when Nebraska hasn't cross too many minds. After all, it's a relatively conservative state where President Donald Trump won by 25 points in 2016. But this election, Democrats aren't forgetting about Nebraska, or more specifically, Omaha. DOING THINGS DIFFERENTLY Nebraska and Maine are the two states that award their Electoral College votes based off results in individual congressional districts. For instance, in 2008, John McCain and Barack Obama both received Electoral College votes from Nebraska. In Nebraska, two Electoral College votes goes to the statewide winner and one Electoral College vote goes to the winner in each of the state's three congressional districts. A total of five Electoral College votes is at stake. While Trump will again carry the statewide vote and two of the state's congressional districts, it is unclear what will happen in the 2nd Congressional District, which includes Omaha, Nebraska. Democrats believe there is a chance. "For whatever the reason, there are a lot of Democrats and independents saying they are going to vote for Biden," Bob Kerrey, the former Democratic governor and U.S. Senator from Nebraska, said. Republicans aren't conceding by any stretch, although they acknowledge it will be close. "We have more people than ever with boots on the ground knocking on doors," Theresa Thibodeau, chair of the Douglas County GOP, which includes Omaha, said. HOW IT COULD COME DOWN TO OMAHA If the election is close, there is a scenario where it all comes down to Omaha. If the projections in most states hold true -- and Trump wins the swing states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania & one congressional district in Maine and Joe Biden wins the battleground states of Arizona, Michigan, Nevada and Wisconsin -- how Omaha votes could decide the election. DEMOCRATS VS REPUBLICANS Of course Republicans in Nebraska don't particularly like the way in which their state allocates votes. "We should move our state back to a winner takes all," Thibodeau said. Former Senator Kerrey, obviously, disagrees. It seems like everywhere you go in Pikeville, people are finding ways to survive, outside of the coal.About 21 percent of mining jobs have been eliminated statewide since 2016, forcing people to explore other industries.After nine years working in the mines, resident Harvey Maynard had to look for a new career after being laid off 10 months ago. His skills brought him to baking!"Right now, it's baking donuts!” says Maynard. “Which is a huge change.”Maynard doesn’t just bake—he even decorates, too."Even as a kid I loved to draw, paint, and color,” says Maynard. “I was always very artistic."New jobs are even moving to the small eastern Kentucky city to help.
