SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Communities along San Diego's coast have seen an increase in graffiti and tagging as the weather warms up and people flock to the beaches.Most recently, a wall along the sand in Solana Beach was tagged twice, frustrating people who surf and swim nearby."It's a public beach, there's no reason someone should be desecrating it like that," says Andres Gomez, who surfs in Solana Beach regularly. "I wish everyone would be more respectful of the space that we share.""I just think of my tax dollars being wasted," says Solana Beach resident Darla Dressler. "Somebody's gotta come paint it. So either the HOA's paying it or the city's paying it."Earlier in May, 10News reported on a home in Pacific Beach that was hit by graffiti. But in May alone, there were 1,989 reports of graffiti. That's nearly a third of all the reports in 2019 so far.It's also well above the average month in 2018, which had 19,541 total reports, or about 1,628 per month.While the city tries to respond to each complaint, several local community groups have taken it upon themselves to clean up the tags. The Pacific Beach Town Council hosts regular graffiti clean up days. Their event in May removed more than 700 tags according to a Facebook post. 1579

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Crowds are already flocking to San Diego beaches for the Fourth of July weekend.On Friday, many people claimed their spots early at Mission Beach and Oceanside.While some were able to keep their distance from one another, many did not have on facial coverings when near other people.“The majority of them are not wearing masks, I would say at this point in time,” said Rich Stropky, Marine Safety Lieutenant for San Diego lifeguards.He said more people are expected to make their way to San Diego Saturday as other Southern California beaches will be closed.Law enforcement agencies across San Diego have said they will focus on education, rather than enforcement when someone violates the public health order.He said the parking lots at Mission Beach were full by noon Friday.“As far as the capacity for our beaches, what has limited capacity in the past is the ability to park,” he said. “How far are people willing to park and still walk to the beach? Are they going to Uber in? Are they going to do drop-offs?”Stropky urged beachgoers to talk to lifeguards if they have any questions and to follow the public health order and original beach rules.“We have our COVID safety guidelines, and we want everyone to adhere to that,” he said. “We have our beach regulations; there’s no glass, there’s no dogs between 9 and 6, there’s no camping.”There’s also a beach hazard statement in effect this weekend. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Clothing retailer Forever 21 announced Tuesday it may close three stores in San Diego County as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring. The affected locations, which include Fashion Valley, University Towne Center, and Parkway Plaza in El Cajon, could be shut down "pending the outcome of continued conversations with landlords,” according to court documents. Attorneys also said the list of store closures could change pending restructuring efforts.Forever 21 has 800 stores worldwide and plans to close almost 200. "We do however expect a significant number of these stores will remain open and operate as usual, and we do not expect to exit any major markets in the US," the company said. The chain was founded in 1984 in a small Los Angeles store by South Korean immigrants Do Won Chang and his wife, Jin Sook. The chain expanded quickly in suburban malls, and catering to young girls and women with a mix of inexpensive basics. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Court documents are giving a glimpse into the past of the 26-year-old accused of killing his parents and sister in a Logan Heights house fire.Wilber Romero is accused of starting the fire at the home on the 3100 block of Clay Street around 4:30 a.m. October 13. 44-year-old Jose Romero died at the scene while his wife and daughter, 46-year-old Nicolasa Maya-Romero and 21-year-old Iris Romero died at the hospital in the days following the blaze.The family’s 23-year-old daughter and 16-year-old son were also hospitalized. Wilber is facing several charges in the fire, including first-degree murder, arson and attempted first-degree murder. Court documents show it wasn’t the first time he allegedly targeted his family. He reportedly attacked his father with a brick and rocks and damaged his car in September of 2018. The incident prompted a police standoff that ended when police shot bean bags at Wilber and released a police dog, documents show. The documents go on to state Wilber was in a car accident when he was 6-years-old and that he has suffered from a learning disability since the crash. According to the documents, Wilber also struggled with drug addiction. 1203
