HUA HIN, Thailand, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- With a delighted and relieved smile, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao waved to the crowd on Sunday at the airport in Thai resort Hua Hin before he left for home.     The premier has successfully finished his visit to Thailand after attending a series of summit meetings related to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) during the past three days. Trade between China and ASEAN has entered into the period of recovery since September. BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama started official talks in Beijing on Tuesday morning to discuss bilateral ties and global issues of mutual concern.     The official talks were held at the Great Hall of the People after a close-door meeting between the two presidents.     It is their third meeting this year following one in London in April and another in New York in September.     Obama is on his first state visit to China on Nov. 15-18 as guest of Hu. He kicked off the visit on Sunday in Shanghai.     

BUCHAREST, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping said Tuesday that China values its ties with Romania and is willing to work with the Romanian people to enhance cooperation and cement friendship. Xi made the remarks when meeting with people from all walks of life in Romania, including parliament leaders, government officials, former ambassadors to China and others.     The Chinese and the Romanian people enjoy profound friendship, Xi said. They have respected and supported each other and treated each other on an equal footing since the two countries established diplomatic ties 60 years ago. BEIJING, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese diplomat told reporters Wednesday a substantial content is more important than the title of the outcome of the forthcoming climate talks in Copenhagen, Denmark.     The key to success of the conference is to uphold the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Kyoto Protocol, the principle of "common but differentiated responsibilities" and the Bali Road Map, said Yu Qingtai, special representative of the Foreign Ministry for the UN climate change talks.     "No matter what the title of the conference outcome will be, we must follow the principles of the UNFCCC and the Bali Road Map," Yu said.     He said China's determination in coping with climate change has never wavered and it has never relaxed efforts in this regard though the global financial crisis has posed a severe challenge for the country's economic growth.     However, it is unfair to make developing countries shoulder the same responsibilities as rich countries on emission reduction, Yu said.     "The principle of 'common but differentiated responsibilities' is the foundation for international cooperation, and denial of the principle undermines the basis for international partnership," Yu said.     "Common but differentiated responsibilities" was set up in the UNFCCC, which was signed by more than 150 countries in 1992.     In less than two weeks, the 15th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC will open in Copenhagen to renew greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets set by the UNFCCC Kyoto Protocol, the first stage of which expires in 2012.

BEIJING, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- A senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Friday stressed the vital role of science and technology as the country's reform and development was standing at a new starting point.     He Guoqiang, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau and head of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, made the remarks during a visit to the exhibition marking the 60th founding anniversary of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).     "It can't work without science and technology as the first productive force to make further progress in building a moderately prosperous society in all aspects and create new prospects for the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics," He said.     The CAS has made remarkable contributions to the country's economic development, social progress and state security over the past 60 years, he said.     As a leading academic institution in China, the CAS was founded in Beijing on Nov. 1, 1949, on the basis of former Central Academy of Sciences and Peiping Academy of Sciences.
