SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police are looking for a man described as mentally ill or under the influence of drugs.Sunday night at 8:58 p.m. someone called 9-1-1 describing a man acting irrationally. Police responded and found the Honda Accord matching the description of the call and tried to pull the car over.The driver flipped a u-turn and sped up to about 80 miles per hour, running three red lights down Governor Drive.Police slowed down to a safer speed and as they caught up to the driver they found the car crashed into the dead end fence.They say the man, described as Hispanic, in his late 20s, 5' 8" tall, wit ha shaved head, wearing a short sleeved shirt, a hoodie, and gray shorts took off. They believe he ran from the car.They searched the area, known as Rose Canyon Natural Park, and could not find the man.If you see him, police ask that you please not approach him and call 9-1-1. 918

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County has seen two flu deaths and more than twice the unusual number of illnesses so far this season, health officials reported Wednesday. County Health and Human Services officials said the number of confirmed flu cases is more than double the past three-year average, putting this year on par with the severe 2017-2018 flu season. Seventy-seven San Diego County residents died of flu complications last season. Almost 10,000 became ill. More than 235 cases of flu were confirmed by Sept. 28, compared to 67 at this time last flu season. “People should get vaccinated now to avoid getting sick and infecting others,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “The vaccine is safe and effective and is available throughout the region.” The flu shot is recommended for everyone over six months old. It takes about two weeks for immunity to develop, according to health officials. Anyone who needs the vaccine and does not have health insurance can go to a County public health center. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Gas and Electric said Tuesday night that the company has started work to restore power in certain areas. The company says wind in certain parts of the county has died down and employees are beginning to inspect power lines before turning power back on. To see when SDG&E expects to turn power back on in your area, click here. The company shut off power to nearly 30,000 customers Tuesday morning due to a public safety shut-off or unplanned outages due to high winds, the utility company reported.  By Tuesday night, that number dropped to about 18,600 customers."Before nightfall (Tuesday), we worked to expedite the process to begin restoring power to some customers impacted by today’s strong weather event. SDG&E crews and contract firefighters helped patrol power lines to ensure they were safe and free of debris, so we could begin safely restoring power. This same process will begin at daylight (Wednesday), starting with areas of the county that are not expected to see high wind speeds (on Wednesday)," an SDG&E spokesperson told 10News in an email.“We recognize how inconvenient it is to be without power. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced Monday a larger investment into a program creating job opportunities for the homeless. Wheels of Change was launched in 2018 as a public-private partnership providing jobs and training for those living in the Alpha Project bridge shelter. “It’s innovative, it’s unique. It’s working it’s growing and it’s making a difference in people’s lives,” said Faulconer. The program is expanding from three to ten shifts per week, with participants earning per hour as they remove litter and debris through the Clean SD initiativee. An additional van is also being provided to transport the 20 workers. The City of San Diego doubled its investment to 0,000 this fiscal year.
